Verian’s mind buzzed for a few moments as it went blank. She thought her ears were malfunctioning as she violently raised her head to look at Heaton’s handsome face. His tone earlier seemed as if they were casually discussing today's weather and if Verian had not paid attention earlier, she would be unable to connect his confession within his flirtatious talk altogether.
Upon noticing her stunned and confused look, Heaton laughed. “Why aren’t you saying anything?”
Verian was speechless.
Verian had not recovered from the shocking revelation in her mind, but it seemed that Heaton had already released her. “If you don’t say anything then I’ll return to North City. There’s still so much work waiting for me to get done back in the Fudd Group.”
The man pretended to leave and just as he turned around, the tiny woman behind him immediately hugged his waist while tightly knotting her tiny hands together.
Verian was a little emotional. “I didn’t catch what you said earlier, say it again!”
In comparison to her emotional state, Heaton was exceptionally calm. He spoke in a calm tone, “I don’t remember.”
Verian’s face was blushing as she puffed up her cheeks and questioned, “... Earlier, you said you liked me?”
Heaton used a little more force to pull her hand away. Verian felt slightly helpless and assumed he was actually leaving, making her slightly nervous. Heaton turned around, staring at her intently before saying, “Earlier, I said I like a small lion.”
She intentionally asked even when she knew the answer. “...Who’s this lion then?”
She was excited to hear his answer but Heaton said, “You don’t know who this small lion is? Jelly Bean told me that the small lion has grown up recently and even gained a few pounds. I was thinking if I should visit it in the Fudd family home after returning to North City.”
After he was done speaking, there was a subtle grin at the corner of the man’s mouth. It seemed mean and smug.
Verian was speechless.
The corner of Verian’s mouth twitched.
“Heaton Fudd…!”
She initially felt guilty after hearing what Kush had told her. Since it was actually her fault that she stood him up at the Banyan Tree Hotel and her heart ached for him as he spent half a month getting people to look for her everywhere while at the same time, focusing on his work, causing him to not have a proper night’s sleep. Now however, he was being way too mean.
Verian reached out to push him away. However, at the same time, one of the man’s huge hands was already hugging her waist, while the other patted the back of her head. He spoke in a gentle and comforting tone, “Getting mad during pregnancy would be bad for the child.”
“...I’m already pregnant and you’re still bullying me!”
Heaton pinched her soft waist with his long fingers. He lowered his head and leaned against her ear while speaking in a deep soft tone, “How did I bully you?”
His tone of voice sounded innocent and yet had hints of flirtatious undertones. Verian stared at him while feeling annoyingly frustrated. “You called me a puppy. I’m not a puppy!”
Heaton agreed. “Yes, you’re not a puppy, since even a lost puppy could manage to find its way back to its owner. You, on the other hand, ran away from home. If it wasn’t for me finding you, were you planning to cut all contact with me for the rest of your life?”
Heaton’s expression grew serious as he reached the end of his statement. This caused Verian to feel guilty as she playfully tugged at the man’s sleeves with her tiny hands.
In all honesty, Verian truly had no idea about everything. If it was not for Heaton looking for her in S City, would she have actually missed out on what he had to offer?
She raised her head to look at the man’s deep and cold expression while trying to butter him up by hugging his waist. She nuzzled up against his chest with her tiny face. “However, aren’t you here looking for me now? There is no such thing as ‘what if’ in this world…”
The man scoffed coldly without saying a word but did not push her away.
“Heaton, you actually think I don’t resemble Sam?”
While frowning, Heaton carefully stared at her. After staring for a really long time, he finally spoke, “I have never once sought out Sam’s shadow from you. Sam is Sam, and Verian is also only Verian.”
His voice sounded as calm as usual. It was not warm, but Verian’s heart seemed as if a flower had bloomed in it while her eyes and brows beamed with joy.
The woman stood on her toes and hugged his neck while raising her tiny face to kiss his lips.
