Zion stared at the woman who was beaming at him. His dark eyes were fixated onto her and her tiny projection was reflected on the deepest depths of his eyes.
His chest felt so full, it was as if his feelings would spill right out. He never felt so content and satisfied before.
Verian placed the newly bought cake on the table and said, “Open up and have a look.”
Zion reached out to carefully open the paper box. He seemed to be worried about ruining the soft cake on the inside.
When he opened it up, it contained a small snowman shaped cake.
The snowman was wearing a red christmas hat and it looked adorable.
Verian placed the candles on the cake before lighting them. She said, “Make a wish.”
Zion smiled as he thought that his wish would never be fulfilled.
His only wish was to always be with her.
Verian started singing the birthday song softly and after Zion finished making his wish, she asked, “What did you wish for?”
“I want to always be with you, protect you and appreciate you. Will you fulfil that wish for me?”
Verian was stunned as she stared at him in silence for a really long time.
Zion said, “Alright, let’s cut the cake.”
She did not answer his question.
Zion cut a piece of cake for Verian. Verian then scooped up some cream with her fingertips before smudging them onto Zion’s nose.
“Although I hope for Heaton’s safe return, I still don’t wish for anything bad to happen to you. I wish that you will be well.”
Zion lowered his gaze and held onto her freezing hands.
It was snowing outside so she would have been cold when she went out to buy the cake earlier.
Verian stared at him with a delightful look while sitting in front of him.
…
After they were done with lunch and the cake, Verian took Zion to watch a movie.
Halfway through the movie, Zion’s phone rang. It was Kush.
Verian thought about Zion using Heaton’s phone and the people in his contacts were people Heaton usually talked to. Would Zion not know any of them?
“Do you need my help?”
“No.”
Zion reached out to gently pat her head before standing up and walking out of the cinema.
Zion only picked up the call when he was outside.
Kush said through the phone, “Boss, I found the person you had me look into. The person that started the fire back then is called Lionel Werner. He already admitted that Queena bribed him with 500 thousand bucks to burn down the Mont family home back then.”
“Alright, I already know that.”
“Boss, weren’t you…previously unaware of who the arsonist was?”
How could he have suddenly known who the real culprit was from back then?
Zion explained, “I’ve sent some people and they found the witness from back then.”
“Oh, so that explains it.”
Although Kush still had questions, he did not probe deeper as he said, “Boss, about this, how do you plan on taking care of it? Do you want to take matters into your own hands or…”
“Call the cops. I will never let Queena go for wanting to murder Riana back then.”
“Alright, I’ll get to it immediately.”
When Zion was just about to hang up the call, he suddenly changed his mind and said, “Hold up. Send someone to bring Queena to me.”
He emphasized the word ‘bring’.
