At this side, in the Ludd family’s living room, Serene's father and mother stared at Wilson the whole time throughout dinner. Toward their future son-in-law, they felt more satisfied the more they looked at him. The main point was that he was good-looking!
Even Serene who had not come back home for more than a month was being shut out and left alone. During dinner, Serene's mother and father kept filling Wilson’s bowl with food.
Serene, who was supposed to be their biological daughter, was left out and she felt especially speechless at their actions.
Serene's mother enthusiastically asked, “Chainer, taste my cooking and tell me how it is?”
Wilson had good table manners and his every action was elegant. Serene's father and Serene's mother regarded him in a different light and looked at him approvingly.
“Aunt’s skills are really good. I like your food.”
Serene's mother was unable to hide her smile after being praised by Wilson. “If you like it then you should eat more. Don’t be polite. Come, eat more ribs. You youngsters have worked hard and need to eat more to have enough energy for work.”
“Thank you, Aunt.”
“We’re all family. You don’t have to thank me. We will still have to depend on you to take care of our Serene in the future.”
Serene was angry and rolled her eyes. “Mom! Am I your biological daughter? Our relationship has not reached that stage and you’re already selling me off.”
Serene's mother smiled while glaring at her. “This little girl! Why are you speaking nonsense? Go ahead and eat.”
In the mean time, Serene's father asked a few questions. “Chainer, Serene’s always talked about you but I actually don’t know…what you actually do for a living?”
Serene graduated from a renowned university called North City Medical University. She was an intern now and would be a formal worker of the hospital in the future. Serene's father did not have high expectations on how much money Wilson’s job could earn, but it had to at least be decent enough to match their daughter’s level of education and skills. Only then would they both have more similar topics to converse on.
Wilson’s expression was calm and serious. He put down his bowl and chopsticks on the table before looking at Serene's mother and fater. “Uncle, Auntie, I’m in the same field as Serene. I’m also a doctor.”
Once Serene's father heard about him being in the same field as Serene, he was slightly jubilant. After all, being a doctor was a good thing.
“Are you in the same medical faculty as Serene?”
Wilson nodded in agreement.
Serene pouted. ‘Of course, he’s my leader,’ she thought to herself.
Serene's father and mother had inexplicable good impressions toward careers such as doctors, teachers, lawyers, and engineers because they were secure jobs. Hence, before Serene went to university and was filling the career choice form, she chose to be a doctor because of her parents’ opinions about them.
Serene also felt that studying medicine was cooler and could save a lot of people. It was only after that she realized studying medicine was hard when she first joined a medical university and she had to experience performing clinical practices and dissecting bodies. Initially, she was unable to take it and had no appetite for the first few days. She was just a girl who wanted to spend her simple life in the morgue. Recalling those times now, if she was given a choice to relive those events, she would definitely not choose to study medicine again.
Students from other faculties usually either played basketball or sang karaoke after class. For them who studied medicine, they still had to dissect white mice after class.
Studying medicine was really tiring. They had to wake up earlier than chickens and sleep later than dogs.
“Alright! Alright! So you’re a doctor too. Our house will have two doctors in the future. Looks like your father and I won’t have to worry much if we’re sick in the future!”
Serene's father immediately made spitting sounds at the possible misfortunes that had been mentioned by her mother. “Pooi! Pooi! Pooi! What nonsense are you saying? Don’t curse us!”
Wilson found Serene's father and mother interesting through their funny interactions and conversations.
He glanced at the little girl who was sitting beside him and talking to her parents. Her face was fair and soft. Her gaze was very warm, as if there was a mini sun shining brightly in her eyes.
Perhaps, only such warm families could bring up someone positive and enthusiastic like Serene!
After dinner, Serene’s mother cut a plate of fruits and Serene took them into her bedroom.
Wilson was sitting on the swivel chair next to her computer desk. Serene passed him a fork. “Eat some fruits.”
Wilson was sitting while she leaned against the desk. He was tall and she was petite. Hence, even when Wilson was sitting, he did not have to stretch his neck much to look at her.
He glanced at her, his thin lips curved in mocked amusement. His long fingers grabbed the fork from her hand.
Serene ate the fruits as she asked, “When are you leaving?”
Wilson raised his brows at her. “I have yet finished the fruits and you’re already chasing me away?”
Serene peeked at the time. “It’s already nine o’clock. After finishing the fruits, you better quickly look for a hotel. This town is different from the city. There are not many hotels, let alone five-star ones.”
