Verian had just washed up and ate her breakfast when her phone rang. The caller ID showed that her auntie was calling.
She was stunned for a moment as she looked at the caller ID. Why was her auntie calling?
She answered the phone and before she could greet her, Sarah spoke coldly on the other end of the phone, “Let’s meet up. I’ll send you the address.”
She had not seen Sarah very often, but she visited James’ house and talked to her before.
Sarah was someone gentle. She was nice and friendly to her and Heaton, but she sounded particularly cold and unpleasant on the phone today. She sounded demanding and spoke without any basic manners.
Verian did not give it much thought. Maybe Sarah had something urgent. Verian kept her tone calm and replied, “Sure.”
Verian received the address from Sarah after she hung up the call. While she was on her way, she could not help but wondered if Sarah treated her differently because Sarah found out that James had decided to pass down half of his wealth to her.
It started making sense when it occurred to her. No one would be glad to find that her husband had decided to pass down half of his inheritance to a complete stranger.
Verian mentioned Sarah’s name after she reached the teahouse. A waiter led her to a private room.
Sarah was already waiting for her in the room with a dark face.
Sarah asked the waiter to leave. Verian walked to her and smiled lightly, “Auntie, why do you want to see me?”
Sarah remained cold. “Have a seat,” she said.
Verian nodded and sat across her.
Sarah looked at her and said, “I wanted to see you today because I have something important to tell you.”
“I suppose you want to talk about James’ inheritance distribution.”
Verian did not try to avoid the problem and addressed it bluntly. “Don’t worry, Auntie. I don’t want any of James’ wealth. But I still don’t get why he has decided to leave half of his fortune to me. Regardless of the reason, I won’t want it. Even if he insists, it should be for Heaton or even Little Jelly Bean. I don’t deserve it.”
Sarah smirked, “I’m glad that you are aware of that.”
Verian pursed her lips, she took a sip of her tea without saying anything.
“Are you not curious at all? About why James decided to pass down half of his wealth to you?”
Verian frowned slightly. She was feeling uneasy, “Why?”
“Never have I thought that I would meet her daughter after twenty years.”
‘Her daughter.’
Things have started to feel wrong for Verian, “Auntie, what exactly do you mean?”
“Your mother, Jolin Lacy, was my husband’s lover. Gosh, your mother is already dead and yet, she sent you to my husband so that you could steal him away from Janny and I. I hate both of you so much.”
