Verian grabbed her bag and was about to leave. “Auntie, I’ve got other things to handle. I’ll make a move first.”
In Sarah’s eyes, Verian was trying to escape from panic and fear.
Sarah sat on the chair as she poured tea slowly. She let out a cold hum and snorted, “Are you afraid?”
With her back facing Sarah, Verian’s grip on the chain of her bag tightened.
“Auntie, is there anything else I can do for you?”
“No, but I’m not here today to simply tell you this.”
Verian’s face turned slightly pale and her voice shuddered, “Auntie, what exactly do you want from me?”
“I hate your mother and similarly, I hate the child she and my husband gave birth to. I want you to leave North City and never appear in front of me again.”
After hearing that ludicrous and shameless request, the corners of Verian’s lips twitched. “I can understand why you don’t want to see me, but I don’t understand why aren’t you the one leaving North City? Why do I have to leave instead?”
She did not do anything wrong, why did she have to leave?
After hearing what Verian said, Sarah threw the tea cup on her hand to the table. The tea in the cup splashed onto the table. Infuriated, Sarah said, “Because you’re at fault!”
Verian immediately turned around and stared at her, “What did I do wrong?”
“Because you’re the daughter of that woman! That's your biggest mistake!”
Verian’s eyes turned red as she glared at Sarah.
Sarah got up and walked up to her. Word by word, she said, “You and your mother are forever in debt to me!”
“Verian Mont, you can choose to stay in North City, but I’m going to make you regret that decision.”
Verian gritted her teeth and closed her eyes tightly. Her fingers, which were holding onto her bag, trembled uncontrollably.
“What’ll you do if I don’t leave?”
“You can choose not to believe who your father is. If you insist on staying in North City and keep appearing in front of me and my husband, don’t blame me for revealing the truth of your birth.”
Verian gulped, “If you reveal the truth of my birth, I bet uncle will despise you, won’t he?”
She did not want to threaten Sarah like that, but she had to.
Sarah said calmly, “Hah, do you think I care whether he despises me or not? When I found out that he wanted to give you half of his property, I knew how important Jolin meant to him. She was even more important than Janny and I. Do you think I still care whether he hates me or not?”
Verian bit her lips. Clutching her bag, she turned around and was about to walk away.
Sarah’s cold voice sounded behind her unhurriedly. “You can forget what I said today, but I want to remind you that you’re not the only one implicated in this issue if your identity is exposed. Heaton, the Fudd Group, and the Fudd Family...even your daughter, Little Jelly Bean, could be scrutinized and harassed by the public and the Internet. Moreover, the Fudd Group may face a major crisis and lose everything if this disgraceful incestuous relationship is revealed. Verian, I would definitely leave North City if I were you. If sacrificing myself could save everyone’s happiness, why not?”
“This isn’t ‘saving’ per se, you’re just trying to pretend that everything's fine.”
“If you don’t bother pretending everything’s fine, wait for the world to collapse then.”
Coldness washed over Verian. “Auntie, do you hate my mother and I so much? You’re even willing to drag the whole Fudd family into this just to avenge my mother and I. You’re terrible.”
“Do you know the feeling of seeing my husband leaving home back then yet I couldn’t make him stay? I tried so hard to be a good wife, yet he abandoned me. What did I do wrong? Who’s your mother to tear my family apart? Your mother made a mistake but since she’s no longer here, you should pay!”
…
Sarah’s cold words still lingered in her ears.
Verian did not know how to walk out of the tea house.
The sky turned grey as she exited the tea house. Snowflakes started pouring down from the sky again. It was already the third snowfall of that winter in North City.
