Wilson slowed down the car as he looked at the shops by the streets while asking Serene, “Which shop serves the best breakfast?”
Serene’s mind was completely unfocused since she was still thinking about her giving Shirley Wilson’s Wechat account. She replied without much thought, “Roadside stalls are basically a magnet for flies. It’s unworthy for your grandeur, master.”
Wilson raised his brows and said, “... What did you say?”
“Ah?” It was only then did Serene snap out of her trance as she frantically explained, “A successful person of such high status like you, master, should dine in a seven-star hotel for breakfast. These roadside stalls are unsanitary and I’m worried that you might get food poisoning from them.”
Wilson’s expression suddenly turned bitter as he said, “What makes you think I can’t eat the same food you do?”
After Wilson parked in an empty spot, he spoke with a bitter expression, “Get out.”
Serene had a perplexed look on her face. It seemed that Hades Jarret's mood swings were incredibly fast that it did not even take her much to offend him directly!
After they got out of the car, Serene cheerfully said, “The wontons in that stall are not bad. Why don’t we go to that one?”
Wilson remained silent and ignored her. He merely walked toward the direction she pointed at as Serene followed behind him.
The roadside stalls were extremely crowded during breakfast hours. There were plenty of people here for breakfast.
Serene would often have her breakfast at places like these, so she swiftly found an empty spot and said, “What do you want to eat, master? Sit here and watch over the seats, I’ll order them for you.”
However, Wilson did not take her warm gesture kindly as he pressed his huge hands on her shoulders to make her sit down. He said, “You wait here. I’ll be ordering.”
Serene smiled. It seemed Hades Jarret actually knew how to treat a woman well!
“I want a bowl of wontons, master.”
Wilson went to line up at the cashier.
Serene rested her chin on both hands as she stared at that handsome, well-dressed man. She mumbled while sighing, “Yeah, any woman would be moved by such a handsome man even if he turns out to be a creep.”
When Wilson returned with breakfast, he pushed one of the bowls of wontons toward her with his long, slender white hand. As Serene stared at the steaming bowl of wontons, her appetite raged and she actually felt hungry now since she barely took a few bites of the dumplings Shirley bought for her.
As the waiter served up some steamed soup dumplings, the waiter said, “Chinese New Year is almost here and in every tray of soup dumplings, there will be one stuffed with a red date. All your wishes will come true during Chinese New Year if you manage to eat it.”
Serene found it interesting since these would normally be included in normal dumplings. She did not expect that even soup dumplings would have a gimmick like this.
Wilson was usually silent during a meal, so naturally, Serene would also remain silent since having delicious food in her mouth was enough to shut her up.
Serene was taking a bite out of one of the soup dumplings and just as the savory hot soup touched her mouth, Wilson suddenly asked, “After you moved out from your school, have you always been living with Shirley?”
Serene was scalded by the hot soup as she instinctively touched her lips with her hand and sighed. She answered Wilson with a frown, “Yeah, since the rent in North City was so expensive, I could not afford to live alone so of course I needed to rent a place with someone else.”
Wilson suddenly reached his arm out and said, “Burned yourself?”
Serene’s heart skipped a beat when Wilson rubbed her lips with his slightly cool fingers. She stared intensely at him with her watery eyes.
The man had a slight frown as he spoke in a deep but gentle voice, “It’s not like I’ll snatch your food from you. It’s not good for your digestion if you eat too fast.”
Serene slightly blushed as she pretended to not be bothered by him as she pushed his hand away. She then lowered her head and silently ate her wontons. She mumbled, “I only wanted to eat the one that has the red date.”
She was not one to believe in superstition but she felt that it would mean good luck for her. The only wishes she had is for her to graduate smoothly during the new year and continue working at the hospital without a hitch.
In the end, Serene got what she wanted and successfully tasted the one with the red date in it.
Serene asked as they left the food stall, “Why did you order soup dumplings if you don’t like them?”
He did not eat a single one. In order to not let it go to waste, Serene forced herself to finish them.
The man who was walking in front of her stopped and lowered his gaze at her. He said, “Who told you that I don’t like soup dumplings?”
