The black Spyker gradually stopped in front of the police station.
Verian followed Heaton out of the car and went straight into the police station.
Even though it was late at night, the police politely ushered in a VIP man such as Heaton. They did not dare to slack off and they respectfully entertained him with caution.
"President Fudd, why did you come to the police station in the middle of the night? What would you like to do?"
"I'm here to bail out Nancy Xander."
The cold voice of the man made the police officer shudder.
The police officer spoke as he trembled, "It turns out that Ms. Xander is your friend. We really had no true discernment. Hurry up! Go and get Ms. Xander out."
Five years ago, not long after Briskly Fudd and Nancy Xander's marriage, Briskly died in a car accident. Nancy’s position in the Fudd family had been embarrassing since then. Also, Nancy always kept a low profile. She was not a public figure like Heaton so she made very few appearances in public. Therefore, not many people on the outside knew that Nancy Xander was Heaton's sister-in-law.
When Nancy was brought out by the police, she saw glanced at Heaton. She quickly ran over in her high heels, as if she was deeply frightened. She abruptly threw herself into Heaton's arms and hugged his neck tightly.
"Heaton... I was so scared just now, but fortunately you're here."
Verian clearly saw that Heaton's big hand paused for a second, then his hand landed on Nancy's back and patted on it, as if he was comforting her.
She stood aside like an outsider. Her eyes looked lonely, as she turned around and walked out of the police station.
The police officer smiled obsequiously and said, "Ms. Xander, I'm so sorry. Well, you didn't tell us that you're President Fudd's girlfriend..."
Before the man could finish talking, Heaton frowned and explained, "She's my sister-in-law, not my girlfriend."
The man was embarrassed for awhile and made a few hollow laughs. "Ha ha ha ha, I've no true discernment... I hope that President Fudd and Ms. Xander could be magnanimous enough to forgive me."
When they walked out of the police station, Nancy looked at Heaton with misty eyes. "Heaton, do you have to clearly disclaim our relationship in front of outsiders?"
The other man just said she was his girlfriend. Wasn't it good?
"I just don't want others to misunderstand our relationship. This is not good for me, my brother, and you."
"Briskly passed away five years..."
Heaton interrupted her coldly and said, "Before my elder brother died, he asked me to take care of you and Zaynie. Thus, no matter how many years after his passing, I'll honor my promise to him."
Nancy Xander looked at the man's handsome face in a daze. "Heaton, don't always talk about Briskly. If Briskly is not your elder brother, will you and I..."
Before her words could finish, Heaton promptly strode toward Verian who was not far away.
"Verian Mont, what are you doing?"
Standing by the roadside, Verian was hailing a taxi.
Noticing that Heaton's tone was unkind and his handsome face was furious when he walked over, she was stunned for a while. Then, she glanced at Nancy, who was standing in the promenade of the police station.
"I... I'm afraid that I'll disturb you and Nancy, so I plan to take a taxi to head back first."
Heaton's face became harder. Did she just like to matchmake him with Nancy?
Nancy was the wife of his elder brother. In what way did she ever think of him having inordinate romantic feelings for Nancy?
Verian saw him pursing his thin lips looking murderous, so she tilted her little face to take a closer look at him. "Did you have a quarrel with Nancy? Your face looks so hard set."
The man's handsome face was even more sour. His eyes looked extremely cold, as if they were frozen over. He turned around and walked toward the car, saying four words icily, "Get into the car!"
Verian stood in her spot and pouted.
