Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 404

The next morning, Heaton had already woken up but Verian was still fast asleep in his arms.

Unable to hold himself back, Heaton lowered his head and kissed her forehead. Gently, he removed his arms from her back and got out of bed. His gaze fell onto the untouched supper on the bedside table.

As soon as Heaton stepped out of their bedroom, he saw Nancy wandering around the corridor on the second floor. She looked like she was in a trance.

“Morning, Heaton.”

“Good morning, sister-in-law.”

Nancy subconsciously diverted her gaze into the bedroom behind Heaton. Then, she asked, “Is Verian… not awake yet?”

“Yes, she had her supper last night and is fast asleep right now. She’s not awake yet.”

“Oh, really?”

Nancy had been tossing and turning around the whole night. She was waiting for something to happen but not a sound was heard even after midnight had passed.

The seller told Nancy that the medicine was very strong. Even a seven to eight month old fetus would be in danger after the mother consumed the medicine.

Verian’s baby bump was not visible yet, so she must be around three months pregnant. Her body must have reacted immediately after eating the medicine.

Was Verian really not pregnant?

“Sister-in-law, are you okay?”

“Oh, I’m fine. Let’s go down for breakfast.”

Heaton ordered Kush to stop by the hospital on his way to the office.

He contacted Wilson and handed him a small plastic bag.

“Help me carry out a food test. There’s something suspicious about this food.”

Wilson took the plastic bag containing the leftovers of Verian’s supper. Then, he spoke jokingly, “Who had the guts to drug your food? That person surely has a lot of nerve.”

Heaton hummed coldly and said, “She thought I was blind so she tried to drug the food right in front of me.”

It was then that Wilson was reminded of Heaton’s eyes. “By the way, it seems like you’ve regained your sight?”

“Yes. I’ve just recovered.”

Serene was doing her ward rounds.

When she was checking on the patient in bed five, the nurse came looking for Serene. “Dr. Ludd, the patient on bed 11 next door kept saying that his leg is aching. He insisted you go check on him.”

“Bed 11? Is the patient’s last name Fane?”

“Yes. Jayden Fane.”

Serene flipped through her list of records and said, “Shouldn’t he be discharged from the hospital already?”

Serene remembered the patient named Jayden Fane very well. He had an occult femoral fracture that was not serious. That patient was admitted to the hospital when Wilson was still in Italy. He stayed in the hospital for quite a few days and bothered her a lot.

“That’s right. He should’ve been discharged from the hospital a long time ago but he refused to leave. We didn’t dare to make him leave because there were rumors that he is the nephew of our vice president. Nobody had the nerve to ask him to leave.”

Serene pouted and said, “Alright then, I’ll go and have a look.”

Serene arrived at the next ward and looked at the man on bed 11. With hands in the pocket of her white coat, she asked with a poker-face, “Jayden Fane, am I right? So what’s the matter with you this time?”

Jayden laughed and said, “Dr. Ludd, what do you mean by what’s wrong with me this time? I feel like the fracture on my thigh is not recovering at all. I can still feel a dull pain on my thigh. Can you take a look at it for me?”

Serene frowned and stared at his thigh. Then, she said, “That’s impossible. We’ve already shown you your x-ray the other time. It’s just an occult femoral fracture. You don’t even have to be admitted to the hospital. It’s been more than 10 days now, so how is it possible that it’s still hurting?”

Jayden seemed very enthusiastic. He rolled up the leg of his hospital gown and said, “Why don’t you try squeezing my thigh? It really hurts. Are my bones rotten?”

Serene’s lips twitched. She sighed and said in a cold voice, “Don’t worry, if your bones are rotten, you won’t be able to speak so energetically right now.”

“Why don’t you try squeezing it?”
