Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 414

Serene ran back home in one breath. She bent over briefly and stood by the window.

She was secretly spying on the man who was still standing downstairs.

She covered her mouth and silently sobbed again.

Why did he play around with her feelings even though he was married?

As she pondered about it, she realized that she did not understand Wilson that much. She knew nothing about his family at all.

Although Wilson was detestable, she too was foolish and innocent.

She wiped away her tears and pulled the curtains shut angrily. She did not want to look at the person downstairs anymore.

That person… No matter what happened in the future, he had nothing to do with her anymore.

She was not that lowly to the point where she was willing to become a mistress. The education and the ethical boundary she had since young forbade her from doing so.

Downstairs, Wilson leaned against the car and lit another cigarette again.

The place where he stood was littered with cigarette butts.

As a doctor, he always maintained a healthy body and did not have any nicotine addiction but now, he had to rely on cigarettes to get through such torture. His eyes were riveted on the well-lit room through the window.

After a while, the lights turned off.

Wilson threw the cigarettes to the ground and crushed it with his leather shoes.

At that moment, click-clacking sounds of high heels could be heard from afar.

Just as Wilson was about to open the car door and get into the car, a woman’s voice was heard from behind.

“Doctor Jarret?”

Feeling suspicious, Wilson squinted his eyes. He lifted his gaze and looked at the person who called out at him.

With a small handbag over her shoulder, Shirley ran toward him with her high heels. She seemed to be excited upon bumping into Wilson. “Doctor Jarret, why are you here? Oh, by the way, I sent you a WeChat message during the new year. Why didn’t you reply to me?”

Wilson was not in the mood to care about her as she tried to hit on him. He impassively answered, “I’ve forgotten.”

“Doctor Jarret, are you leaving now? Don’t you want to go up and have a seat?”

“No, it’s fine.”

Wilson got into the car and started the engine right away. As Shirley received a cold shoulder from him, she pouted and subsequently went upstairs.

As she went upstairs, she walked toward Serene’s room. As she opened the door, she asked, “Serene, are you asleep?”

Serene was crying underneath the blanket as she muttered, “Yes.” She did not feel like talking to anyone right now.

“I bumped into Doctor Jarret downstairs just now. Was he the one who sent you back?”

Serene huddled under the blanket. She bit her lips and did not say a word.

As Shirley did not get any response from her, she thought she was asleep. “Forget about it. Go ahead and sleep then.”

Serene’s eyes were swollen due to the constant sobbing. Her hands clutched the blanket tightly. After Shirley closed the door, Serene could not help but get out of bed and stealthily lifted the curtain a little. Through the slit, she peeped downstairs in search of Wilson but he was already long gone.

He had left.

After returning to the Coastal City Condominium, Wilson drank a few sips of white wine and entered his study room. He unlocked the bottom drawer of his study desk and pulled out a metal case.

He took out a thick, red woven fabric bracelet with three tiny white porcelain beads threaded together. Each porcelain bead was engraved with a word respectively, ‘Se, Rene, Ludd.’

He had kept this bracelet for almost ten years.

Ten years ago, the organization sent him to assassinate a spy. Although the assassination was successful, he fell into the opponent’s trap and unfortunately got shot.

He managed to escape and hid in the forest. However, his bullet wound was so severe that he passed out due to the excruciating pain.

When he regained consciousness, he heard a young, crisp voice of a woman ringing in his ears.

“Wake up! Hey! Wake up!”

The sky was pitch black at that time. As the girl was trying to wake him up, she accidentally brushed against his wound. As she looked at her hands covered with sticky blood, she fell onto the ground feeling frightened and took a few steps backward in fear.
