Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 440

She had to cut all ties with Wilson.

That thought did cross Serene's mind, but she could not find the courage to do that. She could not make that decision.

Even though she spent more time with Chainey than Wilson, she was unsure why she relied more on the latter.

It was probably because Wilson gave her too much sense of security when they were together, so much that when it was taken away, she felt lonely and weak.

When she realized that her daughter had remained silent, Serene's mother said, "Serene, the guy has a wife and a family. He's now back to living the life that belonged to him, but what about you? Are you going to keep living in a world where you were still together?"

"Mom, can you just… Please give me some time. Right now, I'm…"

"Serene Ludd! If you're not going to cut ties with that guy, then you can cut ties with me!"

Her daughter was still hesitant. It seemed like she was still attached to the guy. So, Serene's mother decided to threaten her with hopes that she could put an end to it immediately. However, blood drained from Serene's face, and she turned pale.

Serene's mother had never been that harsh with her. Neither had she ever threaten her with words like that. Her father was stunned as well. He frowned and said, "What are you talking about? It's just a mistake. As long as she owns up to her mistakes, everything will be fine. Why are you talking about cutting ties? How can you cut ties with your family like that?"

"Own up to her mistakes? Look at her, do you think she will change? I think she has gone crazy for that guy!"

Serene did not listen to the rest of their conversation. She hid in her room for almost two days. She barely even ate any food.

Her father was worried about her. "Serene, you'll ruin your body if you continue like this. Let's take a step back. Don't be so stubborn, alright?"

Serene's mother thought she was giving them the silent treatment, so she said in a cold tone, "Let her go on a hunger strike. If she keeps thinking about that guy, then let her starve to death."

"Oh, come on!"

Serene suddenly came out of her bedroom as they conversed with each other. She looked pale, and her lips were chapped. It was probably because she had not spoken for quite some time; her voice sounded somewhat hoarse when she talked.

"Dad, Mom, I've figured it out."

Her parents were stunned as confusion flashed across their eyes, "What have you figured out?"

"I'll do as you say and cut ties with him. I won't see him anymore."

Serene's mother was skeptical about that. "Really? You're not lying to me?"

Serene nodded her head, determinedly.

She had no future with Wilson.

Her mother sighed in relief. She mumbled as she filled Serene's bowl with rice. "It's good that you've figured it out. Let's not talk about the past. We should learn our lesson and not repeat the same mistakes in the future."

They were halfway through their meal when Serene suddenly said, "Dad, Mom, I'm thinking of going back to North City in a couple of days."

Serene's mother was stunned. She was somewhat displeased, and she was suspicious about what Serene had said earlier.

"Do you really want to go back to North City to work, or are you thinking of going there to look for that bastard?"

"Mom, I will never look for him again."

Serene's father was rational about it. "Leave her alone. She already promised you that she won't look for him. Furthermore, I never agreed with you when you ordered Serene to work here. She worked so hard to get into Medical University. How could you ask her to work at the medical center after graduating from such an excellent university? Besides, Serene is a grown woman now, it's good for her to explore the world."

Serene's mother poked at the rice in her bowl with her chopsticks. "Sure, explore the world. In fact, she went exploring the world and she got deceived."

"Serene, don't listen to your mother. Just go back to the city to work. I will support you."
