Serene's head was a complete mess due to Wilson's actions. She made an excuse to run back to the kitchen as her face flustered.
She touched her lips gently as she stood by the kitchen counter. She seemed dazed.
Then Wilson went after her. He hugged her gently from behind before he rested his chin on her shoulders and nape.
Serene blushed even heavier.
"Still reminiscing about us?"
"I'm not. Let go of me, please."
However, the man hugged her tighter. He asked, "What should I do if I'm not willing to let go?"
Serene was speechless.
Was he there to rough her up?
Wilson stared at her slender face as he spoke in a deep voice, "Serene, please give me a little more time. I will completely get rid of Ruby from my life."
Serene remembered the photo she received when he mentioned Ruby's name. She pulled away from him as she no longer felt comfortable in his embrace.
"You're already doing that with Ruby, and yet you still want a divorce? I'm not interested in scums, Wilson."
She liked him because of how he presented himself in the operating theatre. He had acted responsibly with his patients and did not seem like a scum who would actively cheat on their partners!
Wilson was puzzled, so he frowned. "What exactly did I do with Ruby?"
They were only married on paper; he had not had a relationship with her.
Serene bit her lips. "You know what you did!"
She wanted to walk away after she said that. However, Wilson pulled her back to him again, and he pinned her against the kitchen counter.
"Let me go!"
Wilson inched closer to her and asked, "Did Ruby say something to you?"
"No."
"I think that means she did."
Serene was speechless.
How could that man…
"What lies did Ruby spin this time?" Wilson questioned her.
Serene gulped as she lowered her gaze. Then she mocked him, "Well, was she lying when she said that you guys had been intimate?"
The man remained silent for a brief moment, so Serene thought it was an admission of guilt. Her heart immediately felt cold. Just as she was about to push him away, the man chuckled.
Serene frowned as she stared at that man, who had a subtle smile on his face. She was annoyed, so she asked, "Why are you laughing?"
What was so funny?
"Serene, do you smell something in the air?"
"What smell?" Serene did not know what he meant.
When she asked that, Serene immediately felt as if she had been pranked and that he had only wanted to change the subject. 'Was that necessary? The only smell coming from the kitchen was the delicious smell of cooked rice!' Serene thought to herself.
Wilson stared intensely at her before he teased her. "The entire house is reeking of jealousy. Can't you smell that, Babe?"
B*stard!
Serene tried to push him away forcefully. However, the man inched closer toward her and immediately pulled her into his arms. He pressed her head against his chest with his huge hands.
Then Wilson kissed her head and whispered, "Babe, I have an extraordinary job, and it requires extreme secrecy. I can't tell you anything about it because you'll be in danger. Ruby is something like a colleague, and I have never had any feelings or attachments toward her. The marriage certificate only serves as a convenience for my job."
Serene managed to calm herself enough to listen to his explanation. It did not seem like he had lied to her, but there was a bigger question in her mind.
She remembered his bullet wound in Italy. What had he done to get that injury?
What kind of people would have access to guns?
