Wilson took Serene's scalded hand and applied some cream on it. Then he pushed her aside gently and said, "Let me do that."
Serene stared at his handsome face. She hesitated for a brief moment before she asked, "What if Ruby doesn't agree with the divorce?"
At that moment, Serene felt selfish. Wilson was married to Ruby, but she wanted them to have a divorce.
She thought she was a good woman, but what good woman would steal another woman's husband? They would never act so selfishly.
However, all that changed when she met Wilson.
She lowered her gaze as she stood next to the kitchen counter. She stared at her reddened fingers. For some reason, she felt as if her heart had been burned as well.
Wilson walked to the living room with two bowls of porridge in his hand. Then they say opposite to each other as they ate their meal silently.
Halfway through their meal, Wilson said, "I will divorce her, no matter what it takes."
"If I wasn't in the equation, would you have divorced her?"
Wilson smiled. "I would never be with Ruby, even if you weren't part of my life. We got married for a mission; why should that tie me down for the rest of my life?"
When he noticed that Serene did not eat her porridge, he urged, "Eat up."
…
Night fell, but Wilson did not leave. However, there was only one bedroom in Serene's apartment.
Even though they had already slept together, Serene could not accept the fact that someone else had slept with Wilson, even if their marriage was a fake one. Thus, Wilson had to sleep on the couch.
Serene laid on her side as she fiddled with her fingers. She was conflicted; should she kick him out or allow him to stay?
Her tiny bed suddenly sunk under another person's weight, and a huge hand encircled her waist before they locked her in an embrace. Then the man nuzzled his chin against her soft nape.
Serene's body stiffened as she struggled to sit up. She stuttered as she hugged her pillow tightly. "Hey, do you want to sleep on the bed while I sleep on the couch?"
The man stared at her with his dark, teasing gaze. He got up as well before he teased her with a look. "Are you afraid?"
"Who's afraid? You're nothing more than a weak frail patient right now. But this bed is too small for the both of us..."
The man immediately pulled her into his arms before he embraced her tightly. He breathed the subtle fragrance of her hair and said, "I haven't hugged you in a really long time."
The man meant that in the literal sense. All he wanted to do was hug her to sleep, so it did not take long until Serene heard deep snores from behind her.
She did not dare to move abruptly as she did not want to wake him up. She whispered, "Wilson? Are you asleep?"
,
The man behind her back did not respond.
Then Serene moved his arms as she slowly got out of bed. She took her blankets and went to the couch in the living room.
She had thoughts in her mind, so she did not sleep well the entire night.
It was already the middle of the night when she heard movements in the washroom.
Serene was startled awake, but she rushed to the washroom and knocked on the door. She said, "Wilson? Are you in there? What's wrong?"
The door was locked.
Serene tried to open the door several times to no avail. She grew increasingly frantic as she called out to him. "Wilson, open up, please! What's wrong?"
She could hear him vomit violently inside the washroom. Serene could barely make out the silhouette of a man crouched over the toilet bowl through her translucent glass door.
"Wilson! Is your stomach hurting? I'll call an ambulance!"
Wilson sat up in the washroom. He felt better after he rinsed his mouth with tap water and splashed some cold water on his face.
