Carter held Helen’s hand as they walked toward the car under their envious gazes.
Helen had lived more than 20 years but never ridden such an expensive car like a Rolls-Royce Phantom before. The last time she rode in such an expensive car was Verian’s husband’s Maybach.
However, Helen felt nothing as it was someone else’s car but the one now was said to be her husband’s?
Helen was utterly confused.
Luke and Carter were sitting in the front. Luke drove while Tyler sat in the passenger seat like an adult. He did not seem uncomfortable at all.
Sitting in the back seat, Helen was still in shock.
Carter called at her, “Honey?”
She was staring into space for a few moments before she turned her head to look at Carter. “Carter Gale, did you rob the bank?”
Carter was speechless.
Luke who was driving had heard what Helen said as well. He thought to himself, ‘It seems like Mrs. Gale is really unaware of boss’s background…”
It was just a Rolls-Royce Phantom. Carter had much better cars parked in his garage. They came with the Rolls-Royce as they were afraid the others would know nothing about expensive, custom-made cars. Since they were there to help Helen vent her anger, they decided to pick her up with a car that everyone knew and desired like the Rolls-Royce.
Helen was anxious. She grabbed Carter’s sleeve and stared at him with her beady eyes, “Carter Gale, where the hell did you get this car from? Also, what’s with the Hilton Hotel manager apologizing to you? Why did they call you President Gale?”
Helen bombarded Carter with questions, yet he simply gave her a calm smile. He held and wrapped her shaky hands in his warm palms as he spoke dully, “Mrs. Gale, is your husband such an evil guy in your eyes?”
“Carter, that’s not what I meant. However, this car is so expensive so where did you get it from?”
Tyler who was sitting in the passenger seat said in an amused tone, “Daddy, don’t tell me you're secretly the son of a wealthy family? Do I have a super rich grandfather?”
Luke held back his smile. He wanted to tell the kid, ‘Yes, your grandfather is very rich. Of course, your father is even richer and all this money belongs to you in the future.’
However, Luke did not dare to expose Carter’s true identity without his permission.
Luke heard Carter say, “I borrowed the car from a car dealership.”
Luke coughed, nearly choking.
His boss was really good at making up stories! He should have re-edited One Thousand and One Nights!
Helen asked again, “You borrowed the driver from the dealership as well?”
Luke was stunned. He carefully looked at Carter from the rearview mirror and explained to Helen after he met Carter’s gaze, “Yes, the dealership provides you a driver free-of-charge whenever you rent a car.”
Helen believed Carter’s words after that. However, she took another look at the luxurious car and said with a long face, “But how much does it cost to rent this car for a one-way trip?”
Luke answered before Carter could speak, “Eight thousand bucks per day.”
Luke looked at the rearview mirror again and saw Carter staring straight at him with his piercing, cold eyes. Shivers ran down his spine as he wondered what he had said wrong. According to the market price, renting a Rolls-Royce like this would cost at least a few ten thousand bucks. 8000 was considered cheap.
Indeed, Helen felt her heart ache. “Carter Gale! Why would you rent such an expensive car for no reason? Eight thousand bucks has vanished with just one trip!”
8000 bucks was almost Carter’s entire salary!
This man was indeed a prodigal!
Tyler stopped defending his father as well. He criticized him instead, “Dad, why didn’t you rent a cheaper car? Eight thousand bucks is my meal expenses for three months!”
