After dinner, Helen did the dishes, wiped her hands dry, and headed to the bedroom to grab her pajamas before taking a shower.
She saw a peach-colored gift box in the wardrobe when she went to grab her pajamas. It had ribbons tied on it and looked very high class and delicate. Helen was stunned.
Did Carter secretly buy her a present?
Helen opened the box and found a one-piece dress inside it. Coincidentally, the dress looked exactly like the one she saw in the shopping mall two days ago.
Holding the dress, she looked at Carter who was working hard.
Since when did the man learn how to give her surprises?
Helen ran toward him. “Honey, are you hiding something from me again? What’s with this dress?”
Although she sounded like she was questioning him, her eyes were beaming with joy.
Carter pulled her down into his embrace and stared at her gently. “I thought you really liked that dress? I never really buy you presents and it’s been quite a while since you’ve renewed your wardrobe. I supposed it’s not too much for me to buy you a dress?”
Helen held back her smile. “But this dress is really expensive though.”
“But you like it.”
Moreover, it was only 2 thousand bucks. Even a dress that cost 20 thousand bucks was not expensive if it was for Mrs. Gale.
Helen asked him curiously, “How did you know I was eyeing this dress when I went shopping with Verian?”
Carter frowned.
He could find out such things just by asking around.
That night, Heaton had purposely sent him a message to make fun of him, saying that his woman could not even afford a one-piece dress. Of course, Carter could not let this matter slip by so easily. Heaton was the one who helped Carter ask Verian about the dress. It just so happened that Verian took a picture of Helen wearing it, so she sent it to Carter.
Carter looked at the woman on his lap and let out a faint sigh. “Mrs. Gale, you’re perfect in every way but you’re far too obsessed with helping your husband save money.”
“Isn’t it good to be thrifty? Don’t tell me you want me to become a prodigal?”
Carter chuckled. He knew that Helen felt bad for him as it was not easy for him to earn a living. He lifted her tiny hands to his lips and pressed a kiss on the back of her hand. “I feel bad letting you suffer with me. I can work hard to earn money but what if you don’t get to see your most beautiful self during the peak of your beauty? Wouldn’t you regret it when you grow old?”
Helen gave him a sidelong glance. “So what you’re saying is that I’m not pretty enough and you’re starting to dislike me?”
“I don’t mean it that way. When did you learn how to twist my words around to make me sound bad?”
Helen wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her face in his neck, “I know you love me and want to dote on me. However, I don’t really get the chance to wear such expensive dresses on normal days. Nevertheless, I like this dress you got me a lot. Thank you, honey!”
Which women in the world did not like receiving presents like dresses or lipsticks? Although they kept saying it was a waste of money, they would feel delighted on the inside.
Carter carried her and walked toward the bed. “I prefer accepting gratitude through concrete action.”
“But I haven’t showered yet…”
Carter pressed a kiss on her lips as he said in a hoarse voice, “That’s perfect. Take a shower after we’re done exercising.”
Helen was speechless.
…
It was seven in the morning when Carter woke up. He looked at the woman next to him and saw her sleeping soundly. His phone rang.
He grabbed his phone and looked at the caller ID. He gently pulled his arm out from under Helen’s head and got out of bed.
He walked to the balcony and picked up the call.
The Old Master’s commanding voice sounded over the phone. “Carter Gale, you’re getting on my nerves! Come back to the capital this instant!”
Carter frowned slightly. The Old Master was roaring at him so early in the morning, hurting his ears. “Dad, I don’t want to argue with you so early in the morning.”
