Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 556

Three days later, in the Poison Forest.

Wilson and the others had set up camp in the forest. They had also started a fire to cook some food.

Wilson did not have an appetite. As he sat by the fire, he took the red bracelet from his pocket and intently looked at it.

Over the past three days, he had been thinking about what the woman had said to him.

If she could give up a peaceful life for him, why was he not content yet?

Ever since he knew how she felt, he wanted to keep her by his side and pamper her. It was better to be happy and together in danger than to be separated and miserable.

Thompson handed a roasted lamb leg to Wilson. "Thinking of your girlfriend?"

Wilson took the lamb leg and grunted coldly, "It's better than having no one to think about."

"Ha, I can't be bothered with romance. Women are nothing but trouble!" Thompson gave him a deep stare. "You're planning to take on the girl's offer?"

Wilson gave him a side-eye as he chewed a mouthful of meat. "Didn't you say that I won't die just yet?"

"Your disease is curable. After all, the pill that I developed is the most sophisticated anti-carcinogenic medicine in the world. After the operation and a month-long medication regime, you'll be as good as new. However, I can only guarantee that you won't die from the disease. If you die on the battlefield, well now, that's your problem."

Wilson grunted and tossed the lamb leg back to Thompson. "You don't have to worry about me on the battlefield. Ruby and I will be grateful enough if you can take care of yourself and not be a burden to us."

Thompson took a big bite of the lamb leg and pointed it at Wilson's back as he walked away. "How can you say that? I'm your savior!"

After Wilson had left, Serene slept in Wilson's dormitory as she waited for his return.

Serene had sent many text messages to Wilson, but she did not receive any reply. As she sat at the dormitory entrance, she wondered if the reception was weak, so she waved her phone around.

Joan chuckled when she saw that. "Don't bother looking for a signal. Even if you find one, Wilson might not have any reception at where he is now. He's in the Poison Forest."

The name reminded Serene of Dark Shadow. He had abducted her and threatened to leave her in the Poison Forest to feed the wolves.

"Is the Poison Forest that deadly, Sister Joan?" Serene asked worriedly.

"Yes. The Poison Forest got its name from the constant poison mist in the area."

Serene became more worried when she heard that. She furrowed her brows. "Can Wilson and the others survive that?"

Joan smiled as she looked at the naive young woman in front of her. "They'll be fine. They have gas masks."

"Oh, I didn't know that. Even if I go with them, I won't be able to help Wilson. I'll only be a burden."

Like how Dark Shadow had abducted her, and Wilson had to risk his life to save her.

Joan patted her head and said, "Two people should come together because of love, and not because one could solve the other's problems. If that were true, everyone would just marry someone better than them."

"Sister Joan, don't you think that Ruby is a better match for Wilson?"

Joan shook her head. "I had never thought that they were meant for each other. Wilson has never professed his love for Ruby even though they had been together for so many years. However, it was Ruby who didn't want to give up her unrequited love. She thinks that Wilson is the only one who deserves her, but love is rarely about who deserves whom. If they were meant for each other, then you won't even be in the picture."

"Wilson must think that I'm a big burden for him."

Joan chuckled. "You might be a burden, but you are his sweet burden."

A smile subconsciously spread across Serene's face as she hugged her arms.
