Verian covered herself under the blanket and spoke gruffly, "Honey... I want some brown sugar water."
Moments later, when Verian peeked out from the blanket, Heaton was gone.
Then, Heaton came back with the brown sugar water that she requested. He even got her some medication for her stomach.
The man held her in his arms as he peeled the blister pack with his slender fingers and handed her the medicine. Verian took it and washed it down with the brown sugar water.
She felt much better after that; the medicine had taken effect, too.
Verian felt cold, so she snuggled into Heaton's arms.
Heaton rested his huge hands on her stomach and caressed it gently as he whispered, "Are you on your period?"
"How did you know?"
"I remember the dates."
Verian stared at her handsome husband as a smile crept across her face. "Heaton, you're such a considerate husband."
"Don't think that you can get away from writing your 2000-word apology by flattering me."
Verian's face immediately fell. "Huh? Do I really have to write that?"
"You'll never learn your lesson if you're not punished."
Jealousy took over Verian as she said, "Why did Little Jelly Bean only need to write a 50-word apology letter when she was caught eating fried chicken? And I have to write a 2000-word apology letter just because I had a hotpot meal? You're biased! You said you would dote on me for the rest of my life, but I guess that was just a lie."
"Did Little Jelly Bean get an upset stomach like you after eating the fried chicken?"
Verian was speechless.
"Furthermore, Little Jelly Bean is still learning how to write. 50-words is a lot for her."
Verian remained silent.
It seemed like she was wrong.
It was already midnight, and Verian was half asleep when Heaton kissed her and said in a deep, hoarse voice, "Tell me if it still hurts. I'll take you to the hospital."
Verian mumbled, "It doesn't hurt anymore... let's go sleep."
Heaton hugged her tighter.
...
Serene heard knocks in the middle of the night when she was asleep.
She was not in deep slumber as she had eaten too much that evening. So, she stumbled her way to open the door.
'It's so late; who is it?'
Serene was wide awake as her kidnapping experience was still fresh in her mind. She was on full alert.
She was about to look through the peephole when a familiar deep voice came from outside the door.
"It's me."
Serene was stunned for at least three seconds. Her mind went blank, but she opened the door hastily.
She saw Wilson as she opened the door.
They locked eyes, and Serene burst into tears.
He had gotten back to her safely.
They had not had any contact at all for more than half a month.
Serene leaped into his arms and hugged him tightly.
Wilson did not say a single word. His action to reach out and hug his woman spoke louder than words.
Wilson lifted Serene as though he carried a baby kangaroo. Then he took her into the house and closed the door with his foot.
Serene wrapped her hands around his neck and stared at him with her dewy eyes. "Is it really you? Am I dreaming?"
She pinched Wilson's handsome face.
Wilson stared at her with his dark eyes as he exclaimed, "That hurts."
