A small figure carried a huge backpack as she disappeared into the white, winter world under the dim glimmer of skylight reflected on the snowy land.
Dr. Thompson told her that the Southern Star herb was usually seen growing in the south so before Serene left, she stole their compass. She had been heading south according to the compass the entire time.
Due to the thick snow, every step she took was more physically taxing than walking on a flat surface.
Serene had never undergone any professional training. Therefore, her physical strength would naturally be weaker than professionally trained private militias that usually had to brace against a hail of bullets all year. However, due to her strong determined will, she kept going.
She snuck out before the sun was out and the entire sky was dark. However, there was no sign of the Southern Star herb.
As she walked, she noticed green life growing out of some cracks. Her eyes lit up excitedly and she immediately rushed over while carrying her backpack. However, upon closer inspection, it was nothing more than a regular plant growing out of some cracks.
The glimmer of light in her eyes slowly extinguished…
She held back her warm tears as she stared at the vast, white land in front of her and kept moving forward.
The snowy land felt excruciatingly cold at night.
Perhaps it was due to how long she had been walking as her legs began to tremble. However, she knew if she delayed even for a second, she would be delaying a precious second of Wilson’s time. The outcome of delaying the time used to treat him would be unimaginable.
Even a well trained private militia would be exhausted from trekking through a full day through the snow. Hence, it was even more exhausting for a small and weak woman like her.
“Ah…”
Serene’s legs gave out as she rolled down a snow-covered slope.
Serene shielded her little belly instinctively. Fortunately for her, she was wrapped in thick enough clothing and it was harder for her to hurt herself in the snow compared to regular, flat ground. Serene was unscathed after rolling down the slope.
As Serene was about to frantically get back up, she could see some plant life in front of her.
She was wide-eyed as she stared directly at the plant in front of her.
She had seen pictures of the Southern Star herb before. It was called the Southern Star herb not just because it could thrive in the southernmost region, but also because it resembled the Southern Star when Serene opened up the star chart and compared it to the herb. It was also a very rare and fragile plant. Hence, where it got its name.
Serene’s heart was racing excitedly as she stared at the entire field of yellow little flowers that bloomed from the little plant. She then carefully compared it to the picture of the Southern Star herb on her phone. They looked very similar to one another. It should be the Southern Star herb.
As she stared at the field of Southern Star herbs, tears of joy started flowing out of her eyes as she cried excitedly.
She had finally found the Southern Star herb needed to save Wilson’s life!
Serene laid on the ground, having no intentions of getting up. She carefully picked the Southern Star herb while she laid there.
However, at that very moment, a pack of wolves appeared around her under the night snowy sky.
While Serene was happily picking the Southern Star herb, she carefully placed the small little flower along with its roots into a small bottle.
She was thinking about getting the Southern Star herb immediately back to Dr. Thompson. However, the moment she looked up, she noticed the pack of wolves slowly approaching her as a green glint reflected in their eyes.
