Both Wilson and Serene had fallen asleep on the bed.
Serene’s parents silently opened the door and took a glance at them.
They were whispering outside the door.
Serene’s mother said, “It’s all your fault. Look at how horribly you’ve beaten him up. What are you going to do if he brings you to court?”
Serene’s father replied, “If he dares to bring me to court, I’ll sue him for snatching my daughter away!”
Serene’s mother snapped back at him, “Hmph, your daughter is a human, not an object. Who will be able to snatch our daughter away without her consent anyway?”
Serene’s father replied, “I don’t care. He snatched my daughter away so what’s a little beating, right?”
Serene’s mother stared at both of them in the room and noticed how gruesome Wilson’s wounds were on his back.
“Look at how brutal you’ve beaten our future son-in-law. Our daughter is the one who aches for him.”
Serene’s father was speechless.
Serene’s father pointed at himself and said, “... Me? How could you change your mind so quickly? You were just going on a tangent on how horrible of a person that man was and now you’re siding with an outsider who snatches our daughter away?”
Serene’s mother glared at him and said, “Didn’t you tell me to accept him? I’ve thought it through. Serene is already pregnant and since the child cannot be aborted and they are both in love, so, all Serene can do is marry him. As long as he proves he no longer has any ties to his ex-wife, I can somewhat accept him.”
Serene’s father said, “Women sure change their minds faster than they can flip a page from a book.”
…
Wilson woke up in the evening. He looked at the woman next to him and wanted to reach out to carry her onto the bed.
Serene was woken up from his movements. She rubbed her eyes and said, “How do you feel, Wilson? Does it still hurt?”
His back obviously still hurt. However, when Wilson looked at Serene’s puffy little face, he raised his brows slightly.
Her face was slapped by her mother. Not to mention, he vaguely remembered before he passed out that Serene had endured a hit on her back.
Wilson hugged her and said, “Let me look at your back.”
Serene was slightly blushing as she said, “It doesn’t hurt. I’m fine. You’ve endured so many and I only had to endure one strike. Really, I’m fine…”
“We’re different from each other. I’m a man.”
Wilson was stubborn and Serene had no choice but to face her back at him and take her shirt off.
Wilson noticed a red mark across her white tender back.
“Pass me your ointment.”
Serene obediently passed him the ointment and Wilson started to help apply the ointment onto her back. Although both of them had been intimate with each other countless times before, Serene was still slightly flustered by this.
“Hey, is it done?”
She wanted to put her clothes back on since she found it odd being so naked in front of Wilson while he stared.
Wilson’s eyes glimmered as he lowered his head to kiss her neck before grabbing her clothes and helping her put it on.
Thud, thud, thud.
The sounds of knocks on the door could be heard as Serene’s mother’s cold voice was heard through the door. She said, “Dinner’s ready. If you don’t want to starve, you can come out to eat.”
Serene and Wilson looked at each other.
Serene whispered to him, “Let’s not head out. I remembered that I kept some snacks in my room. Let’s just eat some snacks together later. If we head outside to eat, we might start arguing with my parents again. What should we do if they start beating us again?”
Somehow, Wilson found her cowardly look as adorable as a little hamster.
