Serene was already done helping her mother with the dishes by the time Wilson and her father returned from their smoke break downstairs.

The instant Serene noticed Wilson’s return, she rushed over immediately and asked him in a soft tone, “Did my dad beat you? Did he make things difficult for you?”

Although she asked in a soft tone, her father heard her as he frowned and took a glance at his daughter. He said, “Does your father look like an extremely violent person? Would I beat someone unreasonably? Besides, look at how huge he is. How can I beat him?”

Serene spat her tongue at her father as she said, “But you were beating him unreasonably earlier this afternoon!”

“That’s because he was shielding you anyway!”

As Wilson watched the father and daughter duo bicker with each other, his chest felt warm and explained to Serene with a gentle look, “I was just smoking downstairs with uncle.”

Serene took a gentle sniff and actually smelled cigarette smoke in the air. She said, “Dad, why did you bring Wilson downstairs to smoke? The both of you had already stopped smoking! Smoking is bad for your health!”

As Serene’s father listened to his daughter's nagging voice, he smiled and pretended to be impatient as he said, “I know this already. How are you so similar to your mother by nagging this much even though you are young? Even your mother doesn't nag as much as you do.”

Serene’s mother made some tea as she walked out from the kitchen. She asked, “What are you guys talking about? I’ve made some tea. Wilson had not even drank a single sip of tea from the moment he arrived. Now that we’ve just had our dinner, come over and have some tea. Serene, I’ve just sliced up some fruits in the kitchen. Help me bring them out.”

Serene replied with a wide smile, “Alright.”

Both men were drinking tea while the women were eating fruits in the living room.

Serene’s mother was done eating soon after. Serene then laid back on the couch while holding onto a plate of fruits. She was eating fruits with a fork while watching T.V.

Serene’s mother glared at her before reaching out to gently pat her as she said, “How could you act like this? Have I ever sliced a plate of fruits for you alone?”

Serene mumbled, “Dad doesn’t even like fruits.”

“What about Wilson then?”

Serene replied with a smug look as she said, “He doesn’t. He’ll only eat if I can’t finish.”

Serene’s mother said, “... Good lord, you little brat.”

Wilson stared at her with a loving gaze before calmly replying to her mother, “She usually watches T.V while eating a full plate of fruits while she’s with me. I taught her to be selfish.”

Serene’s mother was stunned before letting out a chuckle. However, she replied with a stern tone, “How can she continue such a habit? It would be bad if this habit sticks with her.”

She never expected Wilson to love Serene to such an extent. Wilson’s image in Serene’s mother’s heart improved significantly again.

Good lord, now that she accepted this future son-in-law of hers, he actually did not seem that bad.

This man looked handsome, elegant and incredibly well-mannered. Serene had previously told her that he was a doctor. Both of his hands looked long and beautiful. His bone structure was long and well-defined. Their future child would look incredibly beautiful then.

Since her daughter never exactly worried her, she now had to educate her grandchild well to be just like his or her parents by becoming a doctor when they grew older.

Serene’s mother smiled as she thought about that.

As Serene munched on a piece of honeydew, she took a glance at her mother and asked, “What are you thinking about, mom? Why are you smiling so widely? Did you win the lottery recently, mom?”

Serene’s mother immediately withdrew her smile and glared at Serene as she said, “Oh please, stop messing around. Your mother happens to be quite the rational person. Why would I buy lottery tickets anyway?”

“Look at how happy you’re smiling. If it wasn’t the lottery, what else could it be then?”

“Just eat your damn fruits and watch T.V.”
