Ruby was stunned for a second. "What? Why me?"
She did not want to approach the guy at all.
Wilson was surprised by Ruby's reply. "You were the one that hooked us up with him. Frost Blade is not fond of me, and he also doesn't like Thompson. He prefers you. So, of course, it should be you."
"..."
Thompson said jokingly, "He likes you very much."
'So much so that he ended up in bed with you!' Thompson thought. Of course, he did not dare not say that out loud. He was afraid that Ruby would kill him.
"..."
There was a news report on the television. "Here is the latest news in Z country. There has been a rise in missing-person cases. The police have been investigating, but none of the missing persons has been found. We'll continue to bring you the latest news…"
Wilson grimaced at the news report. "It looks like Stephen has become delirious; he even captured humans for his experiments."
Thompson said, "If God wanted to destroy someone, he'd make them crazy. Stephen has lost most of his humanity. He has created chaos and fear among the people, and he thinks that the Dark Cabinet has done things perfectly. We'll flush him out."
Ruby looked at Thompson and said, "Your mandarin has improved tremendously."
"I've been living with a naggy and vile woman like you all this while; how could my mandarin not improve?"
"..."
Ruby turned around only to realize that Wilson had left. "Where's Wilson?" she asked.
Thompson continued to snack on his baked seeds as he watched the news. "My guess is he went to see Serene. He does that every day around this time. Then he'll head to the lab to continue torturing those mice. So sentimental."
Ruby snatched the bag of baked seeds from Thompson and threw it into the trash. "What are you doing here then? Go help him with the antidote!" she barked.
Thompson replied, "Can't I rest a while?"
Even though he grumbled, he still got up and headed to the lab.
…
It was four o'clock in the morning when Thompson exclaimed loudly from the lab.
"It's done! It's finally done! I don't have to stay up late experimenting anymore! Bloody f*ck, Stephen! You're f*cking evil! You've injected her with so many drugs that we have to resolve it one by one. The process is so f*cking complicated! If I weren't a genius, who else could produce the antidote?"
Wilson looked at the vial of antidote, and his eyes glistened. He took it and rushed out of the lab.
They finally had an antidote! Serene could wake up and prance around like she always did before that. Thompson's loud cheers also awoke Heaton and Ruby. They came out of their rooms.
Ruby rubbed her sore neck and asked groggily, "What happened? Why are you yelling?"
Thompson said excitedly, "We've cracked it! Serene can be cured!"
Heaton and Ruby were stunned before joy swept over their faces. They immediately headed toward the medical room.
Thompson followed them. "Hey, no praises for me? I'm a genius!"
Ruby glared at him and said, "If it weren't for Wilson, could you have created the antidote alone? All you did was sleep; it was mainly Wilson's effort."
"If it weren't for my idea to change the ingredient dosage, the antidote would've not been produced. So, I'm the crucial key!"
