Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 624

“You.”

Heaton gazed at the barefooted Verian before walking over to the shoe rack to grab a pair of slippers for her.

Verian habitually stretched out her hand and supported herself by placing her hand on his shoulder. She put on the slippers and said in confusion, “I… I didn’t cheat on you. What do you mean by ‘catching me cheating’?”

Speaking of which, she was suddenly reminded of the woman she heard when Heaton was out on his business trip.

“Heaton, be honest with me. Are you meeting another woman outside?”

Heaton got up and stared at Verian, trying to hold back his smile. “What did you say?”

Verian bit her lips. Anger started building up in her. However, she was still scared and worried that he really did have a mistress. She would not know what to do if that were the case.

Verian took a deep breath before plucking up her courage to ask Heaton, “I called you when you were on your business trip and heard a woman’s voice in the background. Who was she?”

Heaton explained patiently, “Verian, I told you that the voice came from the television.”

“You’re lying. Do you think I can’t differentiate between the sounds coming from a television versus a living person? It must be your mistress. Why can’t you just be honest with me? I might forgive you if you tell me the truth…”

“Leniency to those who confess, severity to those who resist? Honey, don’t you think you’re being a bit too dramatic today?

Verian was speechless.

She glared at Heaton angrily. However, after a few seconds, her eyes started turning red. “If I knew that you would cheat on me… I wouldn’t have married you!”

Heaton answered, “I didn’t cheat on you.”

“Then why was there a lady’s voice in the background?”

Heaton asked solemnly, “Do you really want to know? I’m afraid it’ll frighten you.”

Verian’s lips twitched before she broke down and burst into tears. She was furious. “You told me you’re not cheating on me. What could possibly frighten me other than knowing you cheated on me?”

Bastard! Liar! She must have been blind the entire time!

Heaton raised his eyebrows. That was not what he meant. He really underestimated a woman’s imagination.

Back then, Jinn used to tell him that women in love were just like Sherlock Holmes. They would never miss out a single detail. They would suspect you of cheating on them before you even did anything and when you really did, you would be doomed.

Heaton had never thought of cheating on Verian. He would not use this method to divorce her even if he lost interest in her. Moreover, he would have never married Verian and chose to tie himself down with marriage if he did not love her deeply.

Freedom was important to every man, especially to a man like Heaton with such great power. However, rather than having freedom, he wanted Verian to possess him.

Heaton wanted to hold Verian’s hands. He missed her a lot. After not being able to see and cuddle with her for so many days, he could not wait to be with her. However, Verian flung his hands away as soon as he touched her.

“I don’t want to listen to your excuses. Keep them to yourself!”

Heaton was speechless.

Verian refused to listen to him at all. Heaton did not know whether to laugh or cry. “Mrs. Fudd, I don’t think I’m trying to explain anything to you right now.”

Verian was speechless.

She was going ballistic. “Heaton! I can’t believe you’re still trying to deny that you had a change of heart! Look how you’re behaving now. You’re not even willing to make things clear with me. You’re not even trying to blatantly lie to me now, so it seems like you really have a mistress. How could you do this to me?”

Heaton did not know how to react at all.

Women were sometimes very peculiar. They were very good at missing the point.

Heaton remained calm while he lifting his hand and putting his palm on Verian’s forehead. “You’re not having a fever and should be sobering up by now. Why are you still saying weird things?”

Mad, Verian pushed his hand away. “Heaton Fudd! I’m having a serious conversation with you!”

Heaton inched closer to Verian. The height difference between them was huge although Verian was wearing a pair of slippers. She lifted her head to look at Heaton. “What?”

Heaton wrapped his arms around Verian’s waist and pulled her into his embrace. He then lowered his head to kiss her, stopping her from blabbering on.
