Heaton could not help but laugh as he looked at Verian’s furious face. “You still can’t forget about that?”
Verian reached out for a pillow next to her and threw it at him. She exclaimed, “What do you mean by that? How is this not a major problem when you’re already having a mistress out there?”
“I really don’t have a mistress. It’s all a misunderstanding.”
“Why did you lie to me then? You’re basically trying to cover up your lie.”
Heaton felt that if he did not come clean about this ordeal, Madam Fudd would never drop it. Therefore, he responded with, “When I was in Z Country, it’s true that I was living in a woman’s house. The woman’s voice that you heard when you called me was also not from the TV.”
Verian gave him a menacing glare as she exclaimed, “Heaton Fudd, you liar!”
Verian was about to get up and leave as she said that. However, Heaton immediately grabbed onto her arm, pulling her back.
“Why are you still clinging onto me when you already have a mistress out there? Go and look for your sweet darling then! Let go of me! Let go!”
“Why are you jumping to conclusions before I’m even done speaking. Madam Fudd, I’ve never seen you blaming someone so quickly before.”
Verian was about to cry from being so agitated. She said, “You’ve admitted it yourself so how is it now me blaming you?”
How could he cheat on her so blatantly when she had already given him two children!
Heaton was hugging her tightly as he explained, “I don’t have a mistress and that woman was not the only person in the house. Wilson and some other people were also present.”
“Heaton Fudd, do you take me for a fool? Am I really that easy to lie to?”
Heaton could not help himself from laughing seeing her serious expression. He raised his hand and pinched her little nose as he said, “If I really wanted to lie to you, do you think I’d let anything slip?”
Verian’s little face was completely flushed from her frustration. “You…! So it seems that you’re planning to lie to me more often in the future, then?”
“That woman isn’t some mistress of mine. If you want to put things in a formal way, she’s my colleague.”
“Heaton Fudd, why didn’t I know about your talent in making up stories previously?”
Heaton realized he could not get through to her, so he replied, “Serene knew about the woman whose voice you heard. Her name is Ruby and she’s technically Wilson’s colleague. You can ask Serene if you don’t believe me. As for why I’d have any ties to them though, well, my purpose of going to Z Country was to help Wilson take care of some things. Both Ruby and Wilson are working in an international organization. I went to Z Country because their organization is going through some internal problems.”
“You’re lying. Heaton, you were never like this back then. How could you now become such a pathological liar? You previously told me that Wilson was an assassin working in some organization. Fine, I believe you. So, tell me, what could you help with by going there in the first place?”
Heaton took a deep breath and said, “Since you want to know, I’ll tell you. You’re my wife and have the right to know about my true identity.”
Verian was speechless.
…
Verian was completely confused after about half an hour.
“So the reason you didn’t tell me about your trip to Z Country and not being in contact with me was because you’re worried that your entire cover would be blown?”
Heaton nodded as he stared at his wife. He wanted to know if he had startled her or not.
It was very obvious that Verian was unable to accept his identity, so Heaton frantically exclaimed, “You don’t worry. I quit a long time ago. I rarely make an appearance anymore ever since Little Jelly Bean came into my life. Since I had you in the last two years, I’ve even more reason to not go back to that lifestyle anymore. I was only helping Wilson out this time, nothing else.”
