In a blink of an eye, winter arrived and Serene was already five months pregnant.

Serene’s parents had arrived in North City. Although they had always known their son-in-law was a capable man, when they noticed the huge mansion they were currently living in, they nagged about saving up and spending wisely.

Serene’s mother then caressed Serene’s belly and curiously asked in an excited tone, “Oh, Serene, we’re still not sure if this child is a boy or a girl. If this ends up being a boy, he has to better be like Wilson. You know, tall and handsome. Have you guys checked its gender yet?”

Serene shook her head and replied with a smile, “Mom, Wilson and I felt that this should be a surprise for us and it’s meaningless if we know about it beforehand. Besides, only you absolutely cared about the child’s gender. However, regardless of its gender, you’ll have to babysit it, okay.”

“You little brat, I never agreed to babysit for you guys.”

“Mom, I know you love me and you will no doubt babysit for me. That way, I’d be able to have fun with Wilson whenever we’re free.”

Serene’s mother lectured while laughing, “How could you think about having fun when the child isn’t even born yet? You’re going to be a mother soon and you can’t act like a child by only thinking about fun, okay?”

“Good lord, mom. Your constant nagging is extremely annoying. Do you want to return to Clear River Town with dad? I’ll be severely anxious if you keep nagging at me like this.”

Serene’s mother gently patted Serene’s back as she said, “Oh you lazy bum! You never cook for Wilson and expect him to cook for you all day!”

Serene replied in an innocent tone, “His cooking tastes absolutely delicious. He might actually complain about how bad my cooking is if I made anything for him.”

“Ugh, the lazy will never run out of excuses.”

Serene’s mother got up, went to the kitchen and told Wilson to get out, “Oh Wilson, go watch TV with Serene in the living room. I’ll take over here. Oh, look at you, you spoil that little brat too much. Although a husband who cooks is trendy these days, you can’t possibly do everything for her, right? That little brat is going to be excruciatingly lazy now.”

“Mom, isn’t Serene pregnant? She’ll cook after she gives birth.”

Serene’s mother scoffed and said, “Good lord, the way you spoil her. I think she didn’t even cook for you before she’s pregnant.”

Wilson rubbed his nose and was kicked out from the kitchen by his mother-in-law.

Wilson sat on the couch, grabbed an apple and asked, “Want some apples?”

Serene’s belly was quite big since her needs were being taken care of extremely well by Wilson. Hence, she had gotten quite fat after she was pregnant. She looked like a little fat child right now.

“I do.”

Wilson picked up a knife and peeled the apple for his wife. He asked her, “The new year’s approaching soon. How do you want to spend your new year?”

Serene leaned her head on top of Wilson’s shoulder as she said, “Obviously I want to spend it with you. As long as it’s with you, I’ll be fine with anything.”

She had told herself that she would spend every single festival with Wilson.

Wilson smiled and handed her the peeled apple. He asked, “Do you want to spend it in Clear River Town or North City?”

Serene initially wanted to say North City since her parents were already here. However, on a much deeper thought, she recalled how she spent her new year in that little town and the entire town was extremely lively. Wilson had mentioned before that he had never experienced a good reunion during new year’s eve. Thus, if they spent their new year back at Clear River Town, he would be able to experience how lively a bunch of children playing fireworks on the streets would be. That would be quite the fun experience.

Serene turned around and stared intensely at him before saying, “I want to show you what it’s like to spend the new year back at Clear River Town, just like how I used to spend my new year as a child.”

Wilson smiled warmly as he knew Serene truly loved him. He said, “Sure, we’ll bring mom and dad back to Clear River Town for our new year.”

Serene then said, “Wilson, before we head back to Clear River Town, bring me to meet your parents.”

Wilson held onto his wife’s hand and spoke with a deep gaze, “Sure. We’ll have my parents witness their ugly daughter-in-law.”

Serene scoffed and said, “I’m not ugly. I happen to be quite the beauty, okay.”
