Yanni sat on the stairs until dawn came. He regularly refreshed Lucy's blog, but she did not reply to his anonymous comment.
Fireworks went off in the distance, but New Year's Day—like any other day—meant nothing to him.
He had a distant relationship with his father. Yanni had a warmer personality when Sam was alive. He only grew cold when the only person he loved had passed away.
…
At North City. It was finally spring.
Yanni had been quite active on Lucy's blog as an anonymous user. She even replied to comments left by a user called Mr. Q.
After some time, Lucy received Mr. Q's request to follow her, and she had approved it.
She felt as if she was quite familiar with Mr. Q, but she could not put a finger on it. So, she sent him a message.
[Do you know me?]
Mr. Q did not reply for a very long time.
Yanni had just come from a meeting when he realized there was an unread message.
He did not want to create any suspicion. [Nope, I just like your photos and Peak Valley.]
When he sent the message, he waited for a reply, but Lucy was already offline.
…
At Zephyr Primary School, Peak Valley.
It was March in Peak Valley, but it was still quite chilly. Most of nature was back in full bloom.
Lucy had finished her last period of class, so she left the classroom.
She met a boy from the next class; he held a bouquet of wildflowers.
"Ms. Lucy, this is from Mr. River."
Lucy was stunned, but she accepted the flowers. The boy continued to say, "Ms. Lucy, it looks like Mr. River really likes you!"
Lucy felt awkward. She glared at the boy and said, "You're too young to know about something like that! Pack up your things and go home for dinner!"
The boy skipped and pranced back to his class.
She looked at the flowers. She was about to return to her dorm when a man called out to her.
"Ms. Lucy."
River Burks approached her. He smiled and asked, "Ms. Lucy, I'm sure you have not had your dinner, would you like to have dinner with me?"
Lucy rejected politely. "Please go ahead without me; I want to put my books back at the dorm first. Furthermore, I'm not hungry yet. Thank you for the flowers, they're gorgeous!"
River got to Peak Valley around the same time as Lucy. He was polite, mature, and he also hit it off with Lucy.
Lucy knew that he was interested in her, but she could not accept a new relationship.
River shook his head as he laughed. "They're not roses. I got them from the mountains. I was afraid you would not like it."
"No, I do! Wildflowers are flowers too. They are as pretty as roses!"
River walked Lucy back to her dorm. He looked at her face as he mustered the courage to ask her, "You don't have a boyfriend currently, right?"
Lucy shook her head as she replied truthfully, "Nope. I'm single."
"Then, would you be my girlfriend?"
Lucy stopped in her tracks. She turned around to look at the man. "Mr. River, I may be single, but I'm pregnant."
River was shocked. He took a step back and asked, "What did you say?"
