In the dungeon.
Ruby’s body was being suspended midair while her arms were bound by a rope. If they had not captured a secret agent today, being suspended midair like this would have already exhausted a regular person’s physical strength without the need of even being tortured.
Paul walked downstairs into the dimly lit dungeon as he looked at the suspended Ruby. The look on his face suggested that he was staring at a person whose fate was already sealed.
However, Paul spoke to her in quite a generous manner, “Who allowed you guys to treat Miss Softie like this? She happens to be an important guest to me. If Blaine finds out that you guys have been treating Miss Softie like this, what do you guys think he’d do to you?”
Ruby only found Paul’s pretentious speech funny.
Although her eyes were blindfolded, she still scoffed and said, “So is this how you invite people over for tea, Mr. President? This doesn’t seem appropriate at all.”
Paul gestured to his underlings beside him and said, “Let Miss Softie down.”
The ropes were gradually lowered and although her feet had touched the ground, her arms remained restrained. However, it felt a lot better than before. The guard took her blindfold off. She squinted her eyes slightly the instant light had hit her eyes as she had been blindfolded for a really long time.
Ruby glared at Paul coldly and did not seem intimidated by the overwhelming aura of nobility that emanated from the middle-aged man in front of her. She asked, “Allow me to ask, Mr. President, what exactly was the reason for kidnapping me?”
Paul sat on the stool in front of her while he brewed some delicious tea that was exclusive only for the nobles by the wooden table. He said with a simple smile, “Oh, Miss Softie. What do you mean I’ve kidnapped you? I was only inviting you over for some tea, you know.”
“If this is how you’re going to invite me for tea, who knows, maybe your office might be blown into smithereens. If you don’t want your office to be reduced into a pile of rubble, I reckon you better release me soon. You know, I could still pretend this entire ordeal never happened.”
Paul seemed a little surprised as he stared at the arrogant woman in front of him. This woman was currently being held captive and yet, she was bold enough to speak so arrogantly to him? Even if she was not an international secret agent or part of a private militia, she was no regular woman.
“Truly, the woman Blaine has his eye on is indeed unique. You’re bold enough to threaten me even when you’re in this predicament.”
Ruby casually replied, “The life of a small fry like me is not even worth anything. Although I was picked up by Blaine, I’m still his by the end of the day. Mr. President, you kidnapped someone who belongs to Blaine in his territory and in such a blatant manner. You know, it’ll be very bad for you if he pins it all on you, sir.”
“You’re right. You belong to Blaine but I had someone dig up any information about you and it turns out you’re not as simple as it seems. I have reason to suspect that you’re a spy from an enemy country. Therefore, arresting you is very reasonable.”
Ruby cracked a sinister grin as she said, “Mr. President, if you’re truly that reasonable, why didn’t you arrest me when Blaine was still in R Country? Or why didn’t you go by the book? Instead, you had your underling send me directly to your private dungeon.”
Paul grew more interested in her as he continued staring at her. He said, “You’re able to tell this is a private dungeon. It seems you are part of a private militia, alright.”
“If me being aware of this place being a private dungeon means that I’m part of a private militia, wouldn’t you be guilty of abusing your powers, Mr. President?”
Although Paul remained calm, he felt furious after listening to what the little brat had said. “How can you be so hostile when you’re only two years younger than Holly?”
Paul’s secretary who was standing beside him made a suggestion, “Mr. President, since this little brat is so hostile, why don’t we rough her up a little so she’ll quiet down a bit.”
Staring at Ruby with an emotionless expression, Paul gave an order to his underlings, “I’ll give you guys three days to have her come clean about her identity. If you guys are unable to give me anything in three days, I’ll have you guys jump into the Glacier River to feed the fishes.”
“Don’t worry, Mr. President. She’s nothing more than a little brat. We’ll make sure she talks.”
Paul turned around and immediately left the dungeon.
The president’s secretary sat on a stool. The tea was already done brewing in the teapot. He ordered the other guard while elegantly pouring tea into a teacup, “What are you guys still standing there for? Since Miss Softie is uninterested in tea, we’ll serve her some whippings then.”
