The black, dazzling Harley sped onto the empty coastline highway.
The motorcycle was practically flying on the road at a speed of 300km per hour.
Cherie could only hear the wind howling through her ears. Driving at high speed made her feel carefree and relaxed as if her worries were blown away.
Tyler shouted, “Jelly Bean! Are you happy!”
Cherie tightened her arms around his waist. With her body leaned against Tyler, she yelled, “Yes, I am!”
“Shall we go a little faster?!”
“Sure!”
The two of them were unfettered as if they had traveled back to the time when they were young.
The intense thrill they had made their minds go blank, leaving all the worries and sorrows behind.
Soon, they arrived at a secluded beach.
It was summer and as the evening approached, the sky took on shades of orange in the setting sun.
After getting off the motorcycle, they walked toward the beach and spent their time enjoying the beautiful scenery of the sea and the sunset.
Tyler placed his hand behind his back for support and turned his head toward the girl sitting beside him. He smiled. “Jelly Bean, I wish you eternal happiness like how you were when you were young. No one has the right to deprive you of your happiness.”
“But as I grow older, I don’t know what happiness is anymore.”
Tyler gazed at her lonely, gloomy look. He then grabbed a handful of sand and sprinkled it over her head.
Cherie glared at him and subsequently, she cupped a pile of sand and threw it at Tyler.
Tyler laughed and the two of them were chasing each other, fooling around by the beach.
Soon, their bodies were covered with sand and they were exhausted from running around.
They removed their shoes and walked leisurely along the beach barefooted.
Tyler said, “I can’t believe seven years have passed. I’m sorry for not being able to be by your side for the past seven years.”
Cherie smiled faintly. “We’re adults now. You have plenty of things to do in your life. Besides, you’re not my shadow. You don’t have to accompany me every single time.”
Words were stuck in his throat and in the end, he confessed, “I blamed myself for your miscarriage. If I were to study at Capital City University, you wouldn’t have dated Boyle. You wouldn’t have gotten pregnant nor would you have had a miscarriage.”
“There are no “ifs” in life.”
“Do you know that there was a period of time where I did not have the courage to meet you?”
Cherie was puzzled. “Why so? You didn’t do anything wrong.”
Tyler frankly said, “That’s because I didn’t know how I should act when I’m in front of you. I don’t know if I should meet you as a childhood friend or as an admirer who failed to capture your heart.”
“Tsk.” Cherie tittered. “Why would you think so?”
As Cherie did not seem to be bothered about it, he deliberately put on a serious face. “Don’t laugh at me. I have dignity too.”
Cherie gained her composure and said, “Tyler, have you ever thought that perhaps, you don’t have romantic feelings toward me? You’re just used to protecting me and liking me as a childhood friend.”
He looked at her fair-skinned face and chuckled, “You’re an amazing person. It’s impossible for me to not like you.”
“A mere like is not enough, Tyler.”
Tyler rested his arms on her shoulder and strolled along the beach.
“In fact, I’ve actually thought that our current relationship will last longer. You can treat me as your brother or family member and I’ll do the same to you. With that, we’ll be together until we’re old.”
Cherie stopped abruptly and stared at Tyler. “I thought we’re family.”
He smiled and with his arms wide open, he said, “Come, give me a hug. I’m back!”
Cherie smiled and gave him a hug.
