Tyler took a deep breath and exhaled, trying to calm himself down.
After some time, Tyler asked while he drove, “You keep saying that you love Jelly Bean so much, but why did you break up with her back then? Why did you make her have a miscarriage?”
Talking about that, it was a scar that cannot be healed.
Boyle’s eyes darkened and he mocked himself in his deep voice, “I broke up with her because I wasn’t capable enough back then. Regarding the miscarriage, I didn’t know that she was pregnant. If I knew that she was pregnant, I wouldn’t have let her go no matter who stood between us.”
“That’s not an excuse for you to give up on her.”
“You’re right.” Boyle did not refute.
Tyler said, “Boyle, if you ever hurt Jelly Bean again, I won’t forgive you.”
Boyle laughed in disdain and said, “I won’t forgive myself if I ever hurt her again. I will never repeat such a heartbreaking mistake.”
Tyler said, “Actually, I never understood why Jelly Bean fell in love with you. I was the one who appeared in her life first. We have known each other since we were three years old. We grew up playing in dirt together, went to class together, got punished together, and played together. However, why did she belong to you as soon as you appeared? I thought we would be together even if I didn’t confess to her.”
Boyle answered, “There’s no first come first serve in relationships. It’s not something you can work hard to get as well.”
Tyler said in a relaxed tone, “You’re right. Maybe Jelly Bean and I are better off being families. I actually realized that we’re not suited to become a couple after growing up. Although I knew her at a very young age and stayed by her side since then, I somehow feel like I don’t know her enough.”
Boyle shrugged. “That’s only an excuse because you don’t like her enough. You simply didn’t pay enough attention to her.”
Tyler laughed and said, “That’s what Jelly Bean told me. She said I simply like her as a friend but not more than that but even so, I’m her childhood friend who is like a brother to her, so I’ll punch you in the face like how I did today if you ever bully her again.”
Tyler was the same age as Cherie. He was seven years younger than Boyle.
In Boyle’s eyes, he was simply a younger guy who spoke bluntly.
Unlike Boyle who had a troubled childhood, Tyler lived a comfortable life since young. He was not mature enough as compared to Boyle in both age and mentality.
Tyler was still indulged in the race earlier. He said, “However, you’re so thick-skinned. I can’t believe you blocked my way earlier just so my car would push you to the finishing line.”
Boyle remained silent while keeping a faint smile on his face.
Boyle exited the car and walked to his car after they arrived at the foot of the mountain.
Tyler got out of the car as well. He stood under the moonlight and warned Boyle in a rude manner, “Keep my words in mind. I’ll beat you up if you ever bully Jelly Bean again!”
Boyle smirked and opened his car door, “You won’t get the chance to beat me up. If I ever bully her, the first thing she’ll do is leave me and I’ll never be happy again for the rest of my life.”
“You’d better!”
Boyle answered in a serious tone, “I love her more than you ever imagine.”
…
Cherie was still at the capital.
She was staying at the State Border Hotel.
Boyle had her address.
He drove to the hotel instead of going back to Greentown Condominium.
He checked himself through the mirror before he got down from the car.
He had a few bruises after having a fight with Tyler at the boxing gym but it was not serious.
He should have gone easier on Tyler and take a few more punches from him earlier.
…
It was in the State Border Hotel. Cherie just got out of the shower.
There was a knock on the door.
She thought it was room service, so she went to open the door with a wet head.
She lifted her head and saw Boyle standing outside the door as soon as she opened it.
He stood there with a banged-up face.
Cherie was stunned for a few moments before she asked, “What are you doing here?”
Boyle was carrying a plastic bag. He lifted the bag and answered her in an obvious manner, “I bought you supper.”
Cherie was speechless.
“I don’t eat supper.”
