Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 916

Heaton called Cherie into his study room and they both sat facing each other.

“Dad, is there something you want to tell me?”

Heaton rarely called her into the room to have a talk with her.

Since young, her father would only reprimand and lecture her whenever she made a mistake.

It was the first time she would be having such a solemn conversation with her father.

Heaton took a deep breath and confessed, “I…once did something behind your back.”

Cherie’s eyes were wide open. Puzzled, she asked, “What did you do?”

“Seven years ago after knowing that you were dating Boyle, I was afraid that he had bad intentions so I did a background check on him. From there, I got to know that Boyle’s father, Hanson, was a kidnapper and found out that the little girl he once kidnapped was you.”

Heaton gazed intently at his daughter as he spoke the truth.

Beneath the table, Cherie clasped the hem of her shirt tightly. She remained silent, waiting for her father to elaborate further on the matter.

Heaton continued, “As Hanson was released from jail that time, I was afraid that once he found out you were dating his son, he would find an opportunity to get close to you and kidnap you again to blackmail us for money. For the sake of your safety, I flew to the capital and had a meetup with Boyle to talk about this.

“I’m well aware of your stubborn temperament and it indeed resembles mine. Most likely, you would be reluctant to break up with Boyle and go against us if you knew the truth. Hence, I could only approach Boyle about this. At that time, Boyle was involved in the bad news his father had initiated. He was downcasted, so I felt that it was the right time for me to suggest to him about breaking up with you.”

Her mouth was agape due to feeling overwhelmed. “Then...did he agree to it?” Cherie hesitantly asked.

“I told him that you’re the little girl his father kidnapped and it hurt his self-esteem. He felt guilty toward you and no longer had the courage to continue being in the relationship. Hence, he agreed on breaking up.”

The room went silent.

Heaton continued, “When you were lying in the operation room due to the miscarriage, he came but I chased him away. As a father, I figured you were still young then and he shouldn’t have knocked you up. Hence, I told him that he had no right to stand outside the operation room to wait for you. As to what happened from then onward, you’re well aware of it.”

Cherie did not utter a single word the entire time.

“Even if you hate me for everything that has happened, I would still do the same thing if I were to be put in that situation again. To me, your safety is much more important than your happiness. The only mistake I made is probably me not discussing the matter with you and thinking that Boyle was not a trustworthy person.”

Cherie sniffled. She lifted her head and looked at Heaton. “Dad, I don’t blame you.”

Her father would always side with her and do whatever he thought was best for her. She knew that.

Heaton smiled and stroked her hair gently. “I’m glad that you understand my actions. Jelly Bean, I wish for your happiness more than anyone else in the world. If you weren’t happy because of the decision I made, I’ll blame myself for the rest of my life.”

Tears flowed down her cheeks and she looked at Heaton teary-eyed. “Dad…”

Heaton stood up and walked toward Cherie. He then held her in his embrace.

He caressed her hair and comforted her. “Don’t cry, Jelly Bean. I’ll always love you and be there for you when you need me.”

Cherie buried her face in his chest and tears streamed down uncontrollably on her cheeks.

In this world, nothing could beat a parent’s unconditional love.

In the past, she had obtained too much love and care from her father. She was willful and reckless and yet, her father apologized to her because of a single mistake he had made.

She was too immature. It was all her fault.

Half an hour later, Heaton came out of the study room, leaving Cherie behind.

He wanted to give her some space and let her organize her thoughts.

Verian stood outside the room anxiously. When Heaton exited the room, she took a peek inside.

“How’s Jelly Bean?”

“She didn’t blame us and behaved unusually calmly the whole time. It hurts seeing her be like that.”

Verian’s eyes reddened. “She has matured in the past few years. I’d rather her be immature and vent her anger and pain toward us.”

Heaton comforted her. “Jelly Bean is sick now. Everything will be back to normal after she recovers from her illness.”

“Will everything go back to normal?”

Heaton was uncertain about that too.

Although he was not a doctor, he knew how hard it was to treat psychological illnesses like the major depressive disorder Cherie had.

However, Heaton assured her firmly. “It will. It definitely will.”

Roughly half an hour later.
