All she could see was a plate of grilled fish on the table.
Boyle handed her a spoon and spoke with a slight chuckle, "Go ahead and look for it."
Cherie picked up the spoon and dug a huge chunk of fish. The instant she dug into the fish, she could see that the fish was stuffed full of eggplants.
A surprised glint could be seen flashing across her eyes as she said, "Whoa, who knew you can cook this dish like this."
Boyle fed her a spoonful as he said, "Give it a taste."
Cherie opened her mouth and took a bite. The eggplants were incredibly juicy as the flavors exploded in her mouth.
"Is it delicious?"
Cherie nodded as she said, "It is. It must be difficult to make, right?"
Boyle gave it a taste as well and it was delicious. He said, "It's not. All I need to do is to empty the fish's belly and stuff it full of eggplants and the sauces before grilling it. That way, the different flavors will mix well. It's similar to making regular grilled fish."
Cherie ate a huge bowl of grilled fish and eggplants for dinner.
However, not long after that, she started puking.
After Boyle took care of her for a really long time, he carried her back to their room.
Cherie drank some warm water and felt a little better.
While Boyle was taking care of her, he was switching out his phone as well.
Cherie inched over to him while hugging her blanket as she asked, "What are you doing?"
Boyle had smashed his phone earlier in the evening, so he had to switch his SIM card to a different phone.
"Boney broke my phone so I'm changing it to a different one."
Cherie gave a casual reply before resting her chin on Boyle's shoulder.
After Boyle was done, he turned around to look at her before reaching over and gently patting her back through the blanket as he said, "Do you feel better?"
"I still feel nauseous."
Boyle's eyes dimmed since he recalled that Shania had told him during the day that Cherie might experience all kinds of ailments, pains, nausea and even panic attacks.
Her problem would never be fixed if she refused to take her medication even though they will dull her senses .
Although those meds were antidepressants and it was used to control her depression and mood, it would have detrimental effects on her nervous system too.
His Cherie had always been sharp and bright when it came to learning things. He did not even have to spend much time explaining a math problem for her to understand everything back then. It was easy for her to grasp his lessons.
She was unlike any other girls out there. No matter how much they learned, they would still be unable to understand anything.
She was incredibly intelligent.
It was all because of that point alone did Boyle not have the heart to feed her those medications which made her senses dull.
Boyle carried her, laid her on top of his chest, picked up the children's book as he asked, "Which bedtime story do you want to hear tonight?"
"A giraffe's wish."
Boyle flipped to the chapter and finished the story for her. He then looked at the woman in his arms as he asked, "Do you know what the giraffe wished for?"
Cherie leaned against his embrace and said, "I wish my friend could give me a kiss."
Boyle lowered his head and kissed her forehead as he said, "Your wish has been fulfilled."
Cherie burrowed deeper into his arms while hugging his slender neck with her little hands. She was beaming with love.
She looked up with her little face and said, "Boyle, do you know why the ocean is blue?"
Boyle stared at her with a gentle gaze as he said, "Was it because of the light or something?"
"Because the ocean is filled with fish and they breathe out bubbles. When they do, they go… 'blue, blue, blue…' So, that's why the ocean is blue."
All of the disdain and worry Boyle felt instantly faded away as he caressed the woman's little face. He said, "Can you crack a smile, Cherie?"
"Why?"
"Because I forgot to add sugar to my coffee."
Cherie immediately cracked a huge wide smile after he said that.
It was sweet.
Boyle no longer felt bitter in an instant.
He lowered his head, pressed his forehead against Cherie's as he closed his eyes.
He felt as if all of the weight he felt from his problems had been lifted in that instant.
Cherie stared at him with a serious look as she said, "I'll keep smiling at you next time but you have to make sure that those people will never take me away again, okay?"
