Cherie kept asking Boyle repeatedly if Huntley had actually found Little Bean Sprout yet.
When Huntley called, Boyle took a glance at his phone and immediately picked up the call.
While Boyle was comforting Cherie, he was also asking Huntley through the phone, "Did you find Little Bean Sprout?"
Huntley replied in a hesitant tone, "Hey Boyle, are you sure that Cherie did not tell me the wrong address? When I went over to the district earlier, I didn't see a single mother with her daughter in block 12, unit 601 but instead, I was greeted by an old lady. She told me that she only has a grandson and not to mention, she even told me that there isn't anyone who is called Little Bean Sprout in the entire building."
Boyle was stunned for a second as he stared intensely at Cherie before asking her with a serious tone, "Cherie, are you sure Little Bean Sprout lives in block 12, unit 601 in Downey Residence?"
Cherie replied with a confident tone, "I am absolutely sure. Little Bean Sprout will never lie to me. Could Huntley not find her? Maybe Little Bean Sprout was just too afraid of strangers which caused her to hide?"
Boyle said, "Why don't you call and ask her. I'll have Huntley look for her again."
Cherie immediately gave Little Bean Sprout a call. It did not take long for the call to be connected. Cherie spoke to her while coughing, "Hey Little Bean Sprout, where are you?"
"I'm at home. Are you coming over to visit me?"
Cherie explained, "How are you feeling? I had someone bring you medicine already but he can't find you."
Little Bean Sprout chuckled gleefully as she said, "I was hiding earlier because I saw someone I didn't recognize. Can you come over, Sister Jelly Bean?"
Cherie replied, "I can't."
"Why not?"
Cherie instinctively took a glance at Boyle and said, "Because... well, it's because I'm also sick. Boyle doesn't allow me to come visit you."
"Who's Boyle?"
"He's my lover."
Little Bean Sprout said, "I want to meet your lover too, Sister Jelly Bean."
Boyle looked at Cherie and said, "Cherie, let me speak to Little Bean Sprout real quick. I… I need to ask her where exactly she is staying."
Cherie handed her phone over to Boyle before he picked up the call while staring at her.
However, all he could hear was a string of beeping sounds. No one was speaking through the phone.
Boyle's throat twitched as he said, "I think... she hung up."
Cherie took her phone back as she lowered her head and mumbled, "She must've been shy. You scared her away already and now it seems that I really have to go visit her at the capital."
Boyle held onto Cherie's shoulder and said while staring directly at her, "Since Little Bean Sprout is this shy, I'll just have Huntley place the medicine by the door then. That way he won't disturb her. What do you say?"
Cherie thought that solution actually sounded quite good as she said, "When I called her earlier, she seemed to be in quite the good mood. Hence, I guess she should be fine."
Boyle comforted her, "It's nothing more than a regular flu. She should be fine. Don't worry."
Cherie had fallen asleep when nightfall came.
Boyle gently got out of bed and took her phone away.
He clearly knew the pin for her phone. When her phone unlocked, he looked through her call logs and found Little Bean Sprout's number.
He called her.
However, all he could hear was a robotic voice of a lady saying, "The number you have dialed is not in service…"
Boyle clutched onto her phone while standing there frozen for a really long time.
After that, he decided to keep trying to call that number. He even tried it with his phone.
They all had the same response. All of them were empty numbers.
An empty number.
Therefore, who exactly was Cherie talking to all this while?
Boyle started to tear up as he somehow had a rough idea of what was happening but he dared not to think about it.
Boyle walked over to the balcony and called Huntley.
He took a deep breath and asked, "Did you manage to find the child at Downey Residence?"
Huntley replied, "I even pulled some strings to help me look for the child around the district but I still couldn't find a child called Little Bean Sprout. Did Cherie get scammed?"
"Probably."
Boyle did not say anything else as he hung up the call.
The way he said ‘probably' sounded weak and helpless.
He actually hoped that the child was lying to Cherie.
Huntley called him back not long after.
