With his thoughts occupied by Nadine in Phoenix Villa, Brad seemed distracted. He took a puff of his cigarette, feeling somewhat agitated.
He finally felt a bit of relief when the doctor came out of Jean's ward. As the doctor approached him, he extinguished his cigarette and asked, "How is she?"
The doctor removed his mask, looking evidently relieved. "Mr. Hamilton, Ms. Sawyer is currently fine after our efforts, but she cannot be subjected to any stress. Please try not to upset her and keep her in a good mood."
Brad nodded. "Use the best medication."
After consulting the doctor, he brought Cameron into the ward. Jean was already awake. She stared at him wide-eyed, as if she'd been anticipating him. The moment she saw him, tears welled up in her eyes.
"Brad, I thought you were going to neglect him," she sobbed. Tears trickled down her cheeks, leaving a small wet spot on the pillow.
"I know. It's my fault. I've been a burden to you. If you think I'm a nuisance, you can just leave. I won't complain."
When Lynn called Brad for the first time, Jean made her put the call on speaker so she could listen in without speaking to him.
She didn't hear Nadine's voice, but she could sense that she was right next to him. The impatience and restlessness in his voice were unmistakable—they only surfaced whenever his desires had gotten the better of him.
What might happen after putting a couple that had been married for nearly six years alone in a room was pretty obvious.
