To offer love fiercely and to retract love quietly was not only a state of mind but also a conscious effort on one's part.
Nadine only wanted to take Sean with her. She had no interest in dealing with Brad.
Avery sent Nadine a message at this moment. "Babe, have you ever thought about finding Sean's biological father? No matter what, he should take some responsibility as a father, right?"
After reading the message, Nadine hesitated for a moment before replying. "Hey, I already told you before that having Sean was my decision alone. It has nothing to do with that man.
"Even if he comes to find me and Sean, I'd still say the same thing. I chose to have this child, and it's my responsibility alone. Marriage, funerals, or anything else have nothing to do with him."
From the moment Nadine decided to give birth to Sean, she had never thought about finding Sean's biological father. What difference would it make if she found him? What if he turned out to be an alcoholic or an abusive scumbag?
Nadine and Sean were living well, so she didn't need to create unnecessary trouble for herself.
Seeing her firm attitude, Avery didn't dwell on the topic and shifted the conversation. "Babe, what if Brad refuses to divorce you? From what I see, he seems to care about you."
Avery hadn't seen it firsthand, but the fact that Brad was stalling the divorce and silencing the media that slandered Nadine showed he cared for her.
Nadine smiled at Avery's words. "Silly girl. As a relationship guru, shouldn't you see this more clearly than I do? If Brad really cared about me, wouldn't I be able to feel it? It's like sitting by a fire—you can't help but feel the heat, right?"
For six years, Nadine had tried her best to be a good wife and love Brad. If he had cared for her even a little during their years together, would she have had to try so hard?
All of it required great effort from her end, and it had truly been exhausting for Nadine to keep it up.
Nadine's words left Avery, on the other end of the phone, in silence. For some time, there were no more messages between them.
Seeing that Avery hadn't replied, Nadine glanced at the time and put away her phone. It was then that she noticed Brad sitting opposite her, seemingly having waited for a long time.
