Brad simply didn't know what to do about Nadine these days. He'd thought of a million ways for them to get along, but none of them felt right.
With how things were between them, he was aware he'd only push her further away if he continued to give her the cold shoulder. But he couldn't bring himself to cling to her like a lovesick puppy either.
Wouldn't it be too much to be together 24/7? Besides, it felt beneath him. A real man should prioritize his career, not obsess over a woman.
Brad felt as though he was trapped in an invisible cage. He couldn't see a way out, and he didn't know how to navigate his relationship with Nadine. He was afraid of upsetting her, yet he was also worried that she might ignore him if he was too accommodating. This constant push and pull had turned him into someone he barely recognized.
Nadine couldn't help but feel a little tempted by Brad's polite invitation. After all, her stomach was growling so loudly she could hardly ignore it.
She hadn't eaten much at lunch since she was busy looking after Adam and Sean, and she'd spent the whole afternoon chasing after Brad's car. At that moment, she was ravenous. The second she heard the word "dinner", she was tempted to rush to the table and stuff herself silly.
She was famished, and Brad's ability to maintain just the right distance made her feel that maybe—just maybe—he wasn't so bad. Nadine found herself wavering in the face of his breathtakingly handsome face and her painfully empty stomach.
After a moment's hesitation, she nodded. After all, a hungry belly had to be appeased.
