Instead of letting her go, Brad's lips curved into a mischievous smile. "What's wrong with what I said? Isn't that exactly what I'm doing right now? If you find it boring, it must be because that guy didn't make it fun enough for you!"
The couple reached a turn, and he effortlessly maneuvered the wheel with one hand while keeping a firm hold on her hand, a triumphant smile spreading across his face.
He loved seeing her all flustered and irritated. She looked like a little angry pufferfish like this, and he had the urge to pinch those soft, delicate cheeks of hers.
Had he not been behind the wheel, he probably wouldn't have been able to stop himself.
Nadine was so furious that she didn't want to utter another word to him. She turned her face toward the window, taking in the scenery outside, refusing to waste her breath on the shameless Brad.
Luckily, the car soon pulled up to Harborview Hospital's inpatient entrance. As Brad parked the car, Nadine grabbed her bag and bolted out. Her movements were swift and seamless, as if she had rehearsed them a hundred times.
The car hadn't even come to a complete stop when she took off, her figure quickly disappearing into the distance. Brad watched her run away from the driver's seat, a wry smile tugging at his lips.
She used to be drawn to him like a moth to a flame, but now she treated him like some kind of plague. How could he possibly change this situation?
Brad was still lost in thought when his phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number. Without a moment's hesitation, he answered, "This is Brad speaking."
There was a brief crackling sound on the other end, followed by the panicked voice of a nurse and a woman's whimpering. "Are you a family member of Ms. Jean Sawyer? The patient has lost consciousness and is no longer breathing!
"We're currently resuscitating her, but we need a family member's consent. Please get here as soon as you can. We're racing against time here, and every second counts!"
