Avery didn't let go of Nadine right away. She held her a little longer before reluctantly letting her go.
Then, she cautiously said, "There's something I think you should know. Word has it that Jean isn't staying at Valor Military Medical Center anymore. Her room's been cleared out, and no one seems to know where she went. Even the caregiver who looked after her has been searching for her.
"I asked around and heard that Jean had somehow ticked Brad off and was taken away by the Hamiltons' bodyguards. But no one knows where she's being held. Do you think… this has something to do with you?"
She had learned all of this from Alex, though she wasn't sure about the specifics. Avery was afraid Nadine would find out about her connection to Alex, so she kept her explanation to Nadine vague.
After hearing the news from Avery, Nadine responded apathetically, "I see." It was as if nothing significant had occurred. Then, she turned around and headed to the stove to start cooking. It was clear she wasn't interested in anything related to Jean.
Noticing her disinterest, Avery decided to change the subject to Sean's weekend family activity. "Babe, why not let me join you this weekend? When has there ever been a school event we didn't go to together? You can be Sean's mom, and I'll be his dad—just like usual!"
Nadine thought it was a good idea. She wouldn't have to see Brad and the problem would be solved. "Sounds good! I'll text the teacher in a bit to let them know we're going together."
Avery impatiently snatched Nadine's phone and waved it at her. "No way! I'll text the teacher right now!"
Nadine had nothing to hide on her phone, and she trusted Avery, so she didn't mind letting her friend take it.
