Meanwhile, David couldn't believe how effortlessly he had secured four million dollars, and it put him in a great mood.
Even though he still had the knife pressed against Nadine's neck, his demeanor toward her had noticeably softened. "Nadine, although you've never called me 'Dad' or given me any money, I have to commend you this time. Your husband really seems to care about you. I could hear his voice trembling over the phone. It was so obvious.
"Don't worry. Once I get my hands on that four million dollars, I'll let you and your husband reunite."
Nadine kept her lips tightly sealed, refusing to engage with him. Her eyes darted around, searching for a way to save herself. Since her phone was on speaker, she had heard every word exchanged between Brad and David.
Jennifer, pleased that her son-in-law could come up with such a large sum of money, was grinning from ear to ear. She even walked over to Nadine, assuming the role of a mother, offering what she thought was wisdom.
"Nadine, I'm not attempting to criticize you, but doesn't this man treat you well? Why are you pushing for a divorce? It's one thing for you to act up occasionally, but if you take it too far, it could end up backfiring. A small spat can spice things up. Go overboard, and it'll only hurt you. You should be careful not to overdo it."
Jennifer was practically glowing at the thought. Four million dollars in cash! Brad had offered it without a moment's hesitation.
Most people would never earn that much in their lifetime, yet she was about to have it in her hands. The mere thought of it had her giddy with joy. Although she hadn't yet received the money, she was already fantasizing about how she would spend it.
