The drone had captured the moment when Brad shielded Nadine from the knife, and once the footage was posted online, it sparked a wave of prayers.
All the women who admired Brad came together, forming a crowd outside Harborview Hospital. Braving the cold winds, they clasped their hands and gazed at the emergency room, sending their prayers for him.
Nadine stood just outside the emergency room, staring at the glowing red light above the door, unable to calm her racing heart. She hadn't witnessed the moment Brad took the knife for her; it was Avery who had filled her in later.
When she first heard the news, she felt a surge of worry, immediately followed by heartache. Why did Brad have to be so reckless? She'd made it clear that they could no longer be in each other's lives and that the sooner they divorced, the better.
Yet, he still threw himself into danger for her. Why had he done that?
Standing outside the emergency room, Nadine found it impossible to remain calm. She was pacing back and forth, her nerves on edge like a cat on a hot tin roof. Every time a nurse came out, she rushed over, grabbing their arm and asking, "How is he?"
The nurses' responses were always similar. "He's still in surgery. His vital signs are stable, but the nerves in his hand might be irreparable."
Upon hearing that Brad's hand might never fully recover, she sank onto the bench in the corridor, burying her face in her hands. How could she ever repay such a monumental favor?
If this disaster hadn't occurred, she could have divorced Brad without a second thought. But now, she couldn't even bring herself to mention it.
