Brad was fast asleep because the anesthetic had not worn off yet. Even after being wheeled back into his hospital room, he didn't stir. Nadine sat at his bedside, gazing at the face of the man she once loved, lost in a whirlwind of thoughts.

Under the soft hospital lights, Brad lay quietly on the bed, like a finely carved sculpture. His face was pale from the lingering effects of the anesthesia, and his eyes were firmly closed. His breathing was slow and steady, his chest rising and falling gently. Even through the hospital gown, she could see his taut muscles.

His hand rested limply on the white sheets, his fingers slightly curled. His injured right arm lay outside the covers, wrapped in thick gauze. Although the wound wasn't visible, the bloodstains on the gauze indicated that he had sustained a serious injury.

His brows were knitted, likely from the pain, and though his face was handsome as ever, his expression was hardened. Upon closer inspection, one could see a few beads of sweat on his forehead.

Nadine noticed the sweat forming on his forehead and picked up a towel, gently wiping them away. Brad had been injured because of her. No matter what, she couldn't be indifferent toward him at that moment. Even if he were a stranger, she would have done the same.

However, her actions earned her Evelyn's ridicule. "Oh, now you remember he's your husband? Weren't you the one crying for a divorce? Why didn't you go through with it?"

Evelyn couldn't stand Nadine's behavior. She was clearly more enamored with Brad than anyone else, yet she insisted on pursuing a divorce and playing hard to get. It made Evelyn sick.

Adam and Daniel weren't around as they were busy discussing Brad's recovery plan with his lead surgeon, giving Evelyn the perfect chance to act arrogantly. In the past, Nadine would have simply ignored Evelyn. But now, she found her annoying.

Setting the towel down, Nadine turned to look at Evelyn. "Evelyn, if I were you, I'd keep my mouth shut and allow Brad the rest when he needs it most. It's obvious you don't truly care for him."
