Jean knew that Brad no longer liked her and that he was trying to gather evidence of her hiring someone to crash into Nadine and Sean. She was also aware that he hadn't found any solid proof yet, so she was trying to buy herself some time.

Jean wanted to make Brad fall in love with her again with this opportunity. The first thing she wanted to do right now was to remove herself from suspicion and stay away from Jessie.

She started, "Brad, I'm sure you know that Harry committed sexual assault. Aunt Jessie has been trying to use my connection to you to get him out of prison.

"I was worried it would damage your reputation, so I didn't agree to her unreasonable request. Who would have thought she would turn against me and try to harm me because of it?"

Jean rambled on, portraying herself as the victim. As she spoke, she eventually burst into tears and continuously wiped them away.

Brad lay in the hospital bed, his pale face showed no trace of emotion. He fixed his sharp eyes on Jean as if trying to see right through her.

He didn't believe Jean's words. He found it ridiculous that Jean was still trying to lie to him, even though they were already past the breaking point. He wondered if he seemed like someone who was easily deceived.

He decisively ignored Jean and turned to Daniel. "Dad, I want Nadine to come here. Is that okay?"

Brad had always treated others indifferently, but now, he was pleading with Daniel. Everyone in the room was stunned, especially Jean.

She looked at Brad with widened eyes, refusing to believe what she had just heard.

She found it hard to believe that Brad would plead with Daniel so that Nadine would come. She thought that Brad was an unfeeling jerk. She wondered why he would want Nadine to come since he hated her so much.
