That was the first time Daniel had ever hit Evelyn since they got married. He couldn't release the anger in his heart without doing so.

Evelyn had used his compassion to scheme against Brad, and even though she wasn't his biological mother, that didn't excuse her actions. The slap Daniel dealt her was punishment for her deceit.

"Do you know why I slapped you? You're a member of our family, so how could you turn against us like this? What is Jean Sawyer to you that you would give up on us? You were even willing to drag our family through the mud!"

Evelyn was stumped, clutching her swollen cheek. She wanted to explain herself but when she met Daniel's furious gaze, she ultimately held her tongue.

He was right. Everything that just happened was part of her plan for Jean. If things had gone as planned, Jean and Brad would've been the ones in the spotlight at that moment.

However, things hadn't turned out as planned, and she had to bear the brunt of Daniel's anger. "I can explain, Daniel! It's not what you're thinking. It's—"

Daniel had been a great force in the business world for years. He had seen all sorts of filthy and underhanded tactics. If Brad had been getting it on with Jean in the hallway earlier, he would've lost it. Fortunately, Brad was smart enough to bring Nadine into a room instead.

"Evelyn Middleton, I don't want to hear your excuses! Enough with that phony act. Don't think for a second that I don't know about the shady things you've done behind closed doors! The only reason I haven't exposed you is to protect our family's image, so you'd better shut your mouth!"

Noticing how things had spiraled out of control, Adam hastily popped another pill. Once his heartbeat steadied, he said, "Alright, since everyone has witnessed this circus performance, we need to get to the bottom of this and find out who's truly responsible for trying to harm our family!
