Brad lay there like a forgotten toy. His once bright eyes were now filled with sorrow as he stared at Nadine. Besides sadness, there was disappointment and an unwillingness to accept his fate.
He had done everything he could to please her, yet she still wouldn't spare him a glance. What more could he possibly do to break through the walls she had built around her heart?
Nadine glanced at his injured right arm, then at the IV needle still embedded in the back of his left hand. In the end, she decided not to push things too far. "Fine, we'll deal with the paperwork after you're discharged from the hospital." With that, she turned and left the room to call his attending physician.
When his attending physician arrived, Nadine was already gone. Brad lay there listlessly, allowing them to examine him and perform tests like a lifeless doll.

It was New Year's Eve, a time meant for families to gather. However, the Hamiltons simply couldn't because of everything that had happened.
Gigi supported herself against the wall as she made her way up the second floor. Without saying a word, she flopped onto the bed and stared blankly at the ceiling.
The white tiles above her had a bluish glaze, reminding her of porcelain. Upon closer inspection, one could see the subtle differences in the patterns on each tile.
What was supposed to be a joyful family dinner had turned into a disaster because of Jean. Gigi was starting to hate her.
