Nadine looked at the injury on the other child's face, feeling a pang of guilt.
The wound wasn't large—it was about an inch long just below the eye. If it were a bit higher, it would have injured the eye. The cut ran diagonally downward toward the side of his nose, and it looked a little scary with the bleeding.
The child was full of fear upon seeing Sean. He hid behind his mother, seeking protection as he glanced nervously at Nadine and Sean. "Mommy, Mommy. I'm scared. Make them go away."
Seeing the injury on the child's face, Nadine instinctively felt that Sean was in the wrong. She was just about to apologize when the other woman began yelling, "Who do you think you are? I'm not letting this go!
"Hitting someone is against the law, and I'll make sure your kid goes to jail. If you won't handle this, someone else will! He's a troublemaker and will end up in jail when he grows up.
"For a family that raises kids like this, the whole lot of you must be heartless people. Your entire family is just rotten to the core."
The woman facing Nadine was slightly plump, clearly affluent, and adorned in designer jewelry. The enormous diamond ring on her ring finger was especially noticeable. It was almost as big as a pigeon's egg—clearly worth a fortune.
Judging by her attire, she was either very wealthy or had high social status. This wasn't going to be easily resolved.
Before Nadine could say a single word, the woman launched into a long and ugly rant, hurling insults the entire time.
Hearing her grow more and more unreasonable, Nadine finally lost her temper. She mustered all her strength and shouted at the woman, "'Enough with the insults. Are you done?
"Do you even know what happened here? You're spouting insults without knowing the facts. Aren't you worried you'll end up biting your own tongue?"
