Daniel had made it clear that no one was allowed to visit Evelyn, deliver messages on her behalf, or allow her to contact the outside world.
Moreover, he made it a point to come by each day to check on things and confirm that Evelyn had no knowledge of what was happening outside. Hence, the bodyguards wouldn't allow Gigi in without Daniel's permission.
However, Gigi managed to persuade them to give her five minutes to speak with her mother. Evelyn had no idea what was going on outside. She had been confined in that dark, damp place for several days. Hunger gnawed at her so badly that her vision blurred, and she felt too weak to do anything.
When she heard her daughter's voice, it took every ounce of her strength just to lift her eyelids. As soon as she saw Gigi, Evelyn perked up and mustered the strength to approach the door. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she looked at her daughter joyfully.
"Gigi, my sweet daughter. You've finally come to see me! You have no idea how cruel your father has been! He locked me up in this dark place and forced me to eat, drink, sleep, and take care of everything in the same room. He starves me, and it's driving me to the brink of madness!
"Gigi, you're my precious daughter. Please help me. Find a way to get me out of here, and I promise I'll make it up to you a hundredfold, alright?"
Evelyn had gone to great lengths to deliver meals to Gigi when she was locked up in the back room, taking advantage of her position as the lady of the Hamilton family. Now that she was in trouble, she thought it was only right for her to ask her daughter for help.
Surprisingly, Gigi sneered after hearing her pleas. "Yes, you did help me quite a bit back then, but was it really for my sake? You spoiled me rotten only to ruin me—to build me up just to tear me down!
"Do you really think I have no idea about what you're up to? You've never liked me—not even when I was a child! You loathed me so much that you deliberately raised me to be arrogant and unruly so everyone would see me as an unreasonable person! You wanted me to be useless so Jean could waltz in and take my place as your daughter, didn't you?"
