Griffin barely had a moment to realize they were surrounded in the yard. His sharp hearing picked up on the footsteps all around, confirming there were at least a hundred people encircling them.

Colby had really pulled out all the stops for Sophie, rallying so many from the Costello family.

“I told you, as long as I'm here, no one's getting in. That includes you and your men.”

Griffin's gaze turned icy, like he was staring at a dead man.

“Boss, we've located the lady and Ms. Elodie.”

Griffin's brow furrowed tightly. “Impossible! There's no way your men found them!”

“They're in the basement of the Reeves family house downtown. You like playing tricks, so I figured I'd join in,” Colby said coolly. “I didn't come here to rescue Sophie today. I came to catch you.”

Griffin still clutched the explosive device, but now it was just a useless trinket to Colby.

Colby knew the Reeves family had a basement. The first time, his men hadn't found Sophie and Elodie because Griffin had already moved them. When Griffin thought the house was empty, he took them back to the basement.

This trick might fool others, but not Colby.

“Colby, you know I'm an assassin. If I wanted to kill you, I could,” Griffin said coldly. “You can't beat me. I'll kill you, then Sophie, and Elodie will still take back control of Devonport.”
