Daphne’s Point of View
“Do you want to throw a ball, or do you want to have more of a feast?” Scarlett jumps in and gets directly to the point.
“I have never held a ball before, so I have no idea where to even start with all of that.” I think that Scarlett can tell that I am feeling very overwhelmed.
“Daphne forget what everyone else in history has done. You are the Luna of this pack, so it all boils down to what you want to do. If you want to have a ball, then we will throw a ball. If you want to have a feast, we will throw a fricking feast. If you want to have a country style hoe down, then we will figure out a way to make that happen.” Scarlett is getting animated, and I can tell that she is trying to make me calmer.
“I have no idea what a country style hoe down is.” I inform both of them.
Scarlett cannot suppress the peel of laughter that explodes out of her. “It is basically a country dance, usually accompanied by barbecue food, and it is not as flashy as a ball.” She quickly explains after she is done laughing at me.
“Oh, or we can do a luau or a masquerade type thing.” Hannah quickly pops in.
“Those murder mystery type dinners are becoming really popular.” Scarlett quickly interjects. They rattle off a few more options and my head is simply spinning.
Finally, I realize that I must stop them from going completely crazy with everything. “Guys hold up for just a moment. Alright to start off with there are not going to be that many people so I highly doubt that we need anything big and fancy. So, I think we can safely take a ball, dance or feast off the table. I have no idea what a murder mystery dinner is, but I do not think Caleb wants anyone to die at this gathering.” Both girls double over in laughter while I am dumbfounded as to what they have found funny. Scarlett seemed to be gaining control over herself, but one glance at me and she is laughing again.
“Oh, my goddess Luna no one actually dies at those.” Hannah says while gasping for breath while laughing. “It is like the game Clue, basically someone pretends that they have been murdered and the guests try to figure out who did it, why, and with what weapon. It is like a play, but everyone at the dinner is the actors.”
The idea seems fun and exciting but then I remember the actual guest list. “The only problem I see with that is Luna Mellissa is going to be here, and at one point I am pretty sure that she actually wanted me dead.” My words bring any remaining giggling to a screeching halt. Scarlett seriously considers what I have said.
“How are you dealing with that whole fiasco?” She does not hesitate to ask me, with concern lacing her voice.
“I want to be ok with the whole thing I really do. I mean we all decided that Noah would make a decent Alpha as long as he was watched carefully, and from what I understand he has been doing a good job of things. I never thought about having to face Melissa or Heather again.” I answer her as honestly as I possibly can. I know that Scarlett and Hannah are loyal to Caleb and I so I can drop my walls around them and just be Daphne the girl for a moment, instead of the Luna. Hannah quickly comes across the bar and wraps me in a hug.
“I know that it is going to be difficult for you to face them. The silver lining is that you are doing so much better than they ever thought that you would. I mean you are mated to Alpha Caleb for goddess’s sake.” Scarlett says in a matter-of-fact voice.
“I know that you are right, but lately I feel like I am putting my foot in my mouth every time I open it.” I do not want to pretend that I have it all together, especially when I feel like I am falling apart.
