The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 314

"I get it." Cordelia's teeth were chattering.

"Ginger...Cordelia, you have no idea, are you trying to trick me?" Brooklyn was terrified; what if something happened to Cordelia's babies? How could she ever take responsibility?

Cordelia's face was growing paler. She'd always known Samantha was envious and manipulative, but she hadn't imagined she could be this malicious.

Cordelia remained silent.

Brooklyn watched her quietly.

Only after they had finished their meal and Cordelia attempted to stand did she realize her stomach hurt again, causing her to stumble slightly.

"Let me help you to the office." Brooklyn supported Cordelia. "Cordelia, you gotta be okay. Edwin always told me not to tell you..." Brooklyn said guiltily.

"Help me get to his floor."

"Whose?" Brooklyn quickly thought. "Mr. Evans?"

"Yes."

Without asking further, Brooklyn took Cordelia to Ronan's floor. She left Cordelia at the door to Ronan's office, knocking before quickly leaving, afraid that Ronan might take his anger out on her.

"Come in," Ronan said.

As Cordelia entered, Ronan's assistant had just heated up his meal.

"Why are you here at this hour?" Ronan asked, looking up at her.

Upon closer inspection, he noticed Cordelia's pale complexion, beads of sweat the size of beans on her forehead, and the way she clutched her stomach.
