Yvonne gestured rather exaggeratedly, knocking over a fruit bowl by the side of the table.
Xavier cowered in fright while trying to soothe her, "Mommy, don't be mad. I won't do this again."
"Yvonne, you've frightened the kid!" I berated her. She could quarrel with me all she wanted, but she could not ignore our son.
"This has nothing to do with you."
I was just about to say something when she hung up on me.
"Damn it!" I didn't dare to imagine what Yvonne would do to Xavier. I was a little worried, so I planned to head to the hospital.
I was already at the main door when Lorraine opened her bedroom door and asked with furrowed brows, "Are you leaving?"
She must have heard my conversation with Yvonne.
"Something has come up."
"I'll come with you." Lorraine scratched her head awkwardly. "Ms. Langley seems to be really mad at me."
She definitely overheard my conversation.
When Lorraine saw me frowning, she immediately explained, "I didn't mean to eavesdrop on you. I was just not asleep." She had been thinking about Sam's issue when she overheard me quarreling with Yvonne.
"It's fine. I'll be back soon." I couldn't possibly bring her along. Yvonne would flare up at the mention of Lorraine, let alone if she were to see her in person.
Lorraine was about to insist on coming when I said firmly, "Lorraine, it's really inconvenient."
Lorraine was a little stunned. Then, she slowly came to her senses. "You're right. This is your family affairs."
We had already broken up. She had no right to interfere with my affairs.
She smiled kindly. "Be back soon."
I didn't waste a single second. It took me slightly more than ten minutes for a 30-minute-long trip. A huge fleet of traffic police was tailing behind me. I called Murphy to arrange for it while I went up to Xavier's ward.
