The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 116

I looked at Xavier, who was apologizing to us. His face was red, and his lips were quivering. I finally realized that our quarrel had frightened him. I was so anxious that I had forgotten that Xavier was still here.

"Xavier, you don't have to apologize to us. You didn't do anything wrong." As I patted him on the head, I saw the fear in his eyes slowly fade away. "You've rescued someone. You're an amazing person."

"Really?" Xavier looked at me timidly. Gone was the brat that he once was.

I nodded at him and then realized that he was now looking at Yvonne. He probably really wanted his mother's acknowledgment.

Yvonne had never liked me taking the children to get to know Lorraine, just like how I didn't hope that Xavier and Jared got along. I could understand. However, she should not put the pressure on the child.

"Yvonne, Xavier is waiting for you to say something."

Yvonne grunted reluctantly. I understood that she was afraid that I'd take Xavier away.

I patted Xavier and finally put him to bed.

"Let's have a talk." Things could not go on like this, with us acting like enemies. This would affect the children.

"I have nothing to talk to you about." Yvonne looked away as she was deeply unhappy with me at that moment. From the way she retreated, I could see how much she hoped I was gone at that moment.

The hug yesterday was like a dream. She had changed so quickly in just a day. No wonder she would have an affair while still married.

"You always do whatever you want. You've never once thought about others." I had never been so harsh with her before; this was the first time.

Yvonne looked at me in disbelief and raised her voice, questioning me, "How could you say that about me?"

I looked at the sleeping Xavier behind me.

"Let's talk outside." I stood at the corner, looking at her. I had not taken a proper look at her in a long time.
