I eyed Yvonne as she questioned me with a timid yet accusing voice. For some reason, I found it quite laughable.
"Did you forget my words? I said I wouldn't fight for custody as long as you raised Xavier well."
"I am raising him well."
"What's well about it?"
Xavier had just gotten slightly better than the first time I met him.
"You nearly got Jonas killed today." Jonas might not even be alive if it hadn't been for Lorraine.
Yvonne lowered her head in guilt. Her cheeks flushed red, and tears came streaming down her cheeks.
"I didn't mean to. I didn't know Jonas would follow that person."
"Even up till this point, you're still trying to make excuses for yourself!" I snapped as anger surged through me, turning my face pale. As I pushed myself up, pain radiated from the injury on my left.
I could even taste the metallic tang of blood in my mouth. Fury was probably what raised blood to my throat.
"Jonas is just a child! What do you take him for, an adult?" I wanted to tear her apart so badly, but that might not even be enough to quell the burning hatred in my heart. "Yvonne, have you ever considered the trauma Jonas would feel after the incident?"
Jonas wasn't in a good mental state to begin with, and this incident would only make things worse.
"I-I had no idea this would happen. I…" Yvonne covered her face with both hands, and her shoulders trembled as she cried. Her sobs filled the quiet ward.
Instead of feeling sorry for her, I felt disgusted. "Don't come to me crying. Who are you trying to fool?"
Seeing she had no intention to leave, I pressed the call button by the bed. The nurse soon arrived and frowned at the scene in the ward.
