The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 151

"Yes." I didn't hesitate to admit to the truth.

Watching Yvonne's expression darken brought me a strange sense of satisfaction.

"Why aren't you two a couple, then?" Yvonne seemed determined to get an answer. Her reddened eyes stared at me as her hands trembled slightly. "You're lying, aren't you?"

It seemed she couldn't accept my response.

I was surprised by her reaction. What was she playing at? Did she assume I could never move on from her?

"Stop flattering yourself, Yvonne," I said coldly, cutting off any hope she had. She finally broke down and leaned over the bed to cry uncontrollably.

"What's this supposed to mean? Still hung up on me?" I mocked. On one hand, she was helping Jared stage his comeback, and on the other, she was trying to curry favor with me. Wasn't she afraid of getting exposed one day?

Outside the door, Lorraine's grip on Jonas' hand tightened. She had always assumed that my feelings for her were lukewarm at best. I had never openly expressed anything to her, after all.

But today, she finally understood that she had always held a place in my heart.

After taking a deep breath, she knocked on the door.

I was stunned at the knock. Before I could react, Yvonne had rushed to open the door.

"No, don't…" My voice trailed off.

Lorraine stood at the door, holding Jonas' hand. Yvonne's expression, as reflected in the mirror, was sour, and her eyes were full of hostility.

"You're back?" To make sure Yvonne wouldn't get the wrong idea that I didn't value Lorraine, I got out of bed and stepped forward to take her coat.

But Lorraine stopped me with a gentle press of her hand. "You're injured."
